And Vince Gill made one confession about Taylor Swift that took his fans by surprise.
Vince Gill weighs in on Taylor Swift’s appearances at NFL games
Pop megastar Taylor Swift has become a regular at Kansas City Chiefs games after she went public with her relationship with the team’s star tight end Travis Kelce in September 2023.
Swift has gotten plenty of face time during Chiefs games from TV cameras cutting to her private suite.
NFL fans were divided about the attention Swift got when she attended games.
She was booed when her face was put up on the jumbotron at this year’s Super Bowl in New Orleans.
Country music star Vince Gill dismissed Swift’s critics who thought she took up too much on TV.
Gill told the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in an interview that he’s a big fan of the country singer turned pop star.
“She’s awesome. I’m crazy about her,” Gill said about Swift. “I did the CMA Awards with her one year. Myself and Alison Krauss and some other folks did an acoustic version of her song, ‘Red.’”
He told NFL fans to calm down about seeing Swift during the game.
“I’ve always been crazy about her, and I just laugh when everybody gets so uptight when she goes to football games,” Gill said.
Gill compared to Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones being shown during a game.
“I said ‘Hell, they don’t cut away to her as much as they do Jerry Jones at the Dallas Cowboys games — what’s the big deal?’” Gill asked.
“Somebody said they figured it out on one of the games, and he was only on camera the entire game for 44 seconds — in a three-and-a-half-hour ballgame. You’re uptight about that? Really? You know, I don’t get it. The scrutiny that someone with that much popularity is under is staggering,” Gill explained.
The “One More Last Chance” singer said Swift going to watch her boyfriend play was like any other relationship.
“It’s just a girl that likes a guy, and they’re going to a ballgame,” Gill said.
Vince Gill picked his side in one of the biggest debates among NFL fans.
Taylor Swift doesn’t care if NFL fans get mad at her
Swift claimed that she had no idea how many times she showed up on TV during an NFL game in an interview with TIME magazine after winning Person of the Year in 2023.
“I don’t know how they know what suite I’m in,” Swift said. “There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once.”
The pop star told people who were upset about the cameras cutting to her, tough luck.
“I’m just there to support Travis,” Swift explained. “I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”
“Football is awesome, it turns out. I’ve been missing out my whole life,” Swift added.
Taylor Swift will continue to be a subject of debate for NFL fans as long she’s in a relationship with Travis Kelce.
