The media landscape changed forever with Donald Trump’s win.
Left-wing news outlets are in for a world of pain.
And two MSNBC hosts just got the most horrible news of their lives.
MSNBC faces uncertain future
The deathwatch is on for left-wing cable channel MSNBC.
MSNBC’s parent company Comcast announced it has spun MSNBC off into a separate company – called SpinCo – along with other cable channels.
This move set off “panic” inside MSNBC, according to a report in The New York Post.
The Post reported that NBCUniversal chairman Mark Lazarus – who is set to run SpinCo – held a town hall meeting with MSNBC employees that didn’t go well at all as the attendees suddenly realized their jobs were in jeopardy.
“Staffers fearing looming layoffs peppered him with questions about whether the network will need to change its name, logos and headquarters after reports surfaced that the new entity could be cut off from the reporting muscle of NBC News,” the Post reported.
“Everyone is in a panic because everything is up in the air,” a source inside MSNBC told the Post.
Comcast wanted to separate MSNBC from NBC News, fearing that MSNBC’s leftward tilt damaged the brand and ratings for NBC News.
Shunting MSNBC off into a separate company led to speculation that SpinCo was actually a vehicle for selling MSNBC and the other cable channels, as the cable model is now a dying business due to cord cutting and the rise of streaming.
When a company is looking to sell, the first step taken is cleaning up the books so the property looks as attractive financially as possible.
MSNBC looks like it’s in the middle of a belt tightening.
Hosts on the chopping block
Rachel Maddow already took a $5 million a year pay cut.
And now Lachlan Cartwright of The Ankler Podcast reported that Joy Reid and Stephanie Ruhle are also in line for a haircut.
“The pay cuts on the table for top MSNBC talent, including Joy Reid and Stephanie Ruhle,” Cartwright wrote.
Reid and Ruhle are reportedly up for pay cuts because MSNBC’s ratings are tanking.
“Reid, who has been with the channel since 2011 and has had a primetime slot since 2020, has experienced a massive ratings drop since Trump’s election, losing nearly half of her entire audience since then,” Fox News reported.
“The far-left MSNBC anchor has shed 47% of her total audience, averaging just 759,000 viewers after averaging 1.4 million viewers throughout 2024 leading up to Election Day, according to Nielsen Media Research,” the Fox News report continued.
Viewers realized MSNBC hosts like Reid lied to them about Kamala Harris’ chances of winning the election and how the many media-invented controversies would doom Donald Trump.
Reid is the posterchild for the woke, race-obsessed leftists in the media, who are suddenly out of step with the broader audience.
Ruhle’s recent comments, in which she praised Donald Trump for being accessible and slammed Kamala Harris for keeping a phalanx of handlers between her and the press, could be interpreted as Ruhle sending a signal to any new owners that she isn’t wedded to a hard-left editorial slant if MSNBC eventually gets sold.
