Charlie Kirk was assassinated with a single rifle shot exactly one year ago today.
President Trump paid tribute to Kirk at the Republican midterm convention this week.
And Trump chose one specific word to describe what Kirk became in that moment.
Trump Told the Convention Floor Kirk Became Immortal
The tribute video wove together Kirk's own words from that Utah Valley University stage with footage from his funeral and the eulogy Trump delivered himself.
"On that terrible day, Sept. 10, 2025, our greatest evangelist for American liberty became immortal," Trump told the crowd.
The room broke into chants of Charlie's name as Trump closed out the tribute.
Trump did not soften what happened to the man he called a friend.
"It was actually one year ago tomorrow, a far-left extremist assassinated my great friend and conservative voice, Charlie Kirk, because Charlie Kirk spoke the truth," he said.
Trump also called out the reaction from the left in the hours after the shooting.
"What shocked millions of Americans was not only the fact that Charlie was murdered, as bad as it was, but also how many people made an excuse for it or cheered for it," he said.
Robinson Pleaded Not Guilty and Prosecutors Have Never Produced a Confession
A Utah judge cleared the case for trial on September 1, formally sending Tyler Robinson toward a death-penalty prosecution.
He faces aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, witness tampering, and a charge for committing violence in front of children.
Despite a year of headlines claiming Robinson confessed to his family, prosecutors have not entered any confession into evidence.
What they have entered is DNA – from multiple sources – on the rifle, surveillance video which thus far shows little that could provide positive identification but just a blurry blob on a roof, and hearsay about a handwritten note found under his keyboard according to a super suspicious roommate.
Family members have not said he admitted involvement – that narrative stems from an officer saying another retired officer and family friend of the Robinsons’ had reportedly supplied information to someone in the sheriff's office to that effect.
“On the evening of September 11, 2025 a family member of Tyler Robinson reached out to a family friend, who contacted the Washington County Sheriff’s Office with information that Robinson had confessed to them or implied that he had committed the incident” the probable cause affidavit read.
Somehow, the “information” which “implied” became a confession.
But that is not the same as a confession prosecutors have proven in court.
Innocent until proven guilty is a bedrock American principle, and conservatives are the ones who still uphold it even for a man accused of killing one of our own.
Robinson denies it all, and he is entitled to.
Prosecutors certainly didn’t put his family on the stand to testify that he confessed.
And that’s a tell that something is amiss and not what they’d have everyone believe.
Kirk Was Not Shot for Debating College Kids
The official story has always been that Kirk died because he argued with students in public.
That was never the real reason he ended up in a rifle scope.
Kirk was assassinated because he had become the general of the largest youth political machine in the country, and machines like that get people elected.
The principalities and powers running so much of this world could not tolerate where he was steering the next generation of conservatives, so they removed him from the field.
Turning Point's Foreign Policy Turn Has Its Own Side Asking Questions
The assassination briefly supercharged Turning Point USA.
College chapters nearly doubled, high school chapters almost tripled, and the group pulled in more than $115 million in a single year.
But a year in, the organization has drifted to a heavily interventionist foreign policy that departs from the America First ground where Kirk himself stood, and plenty on the right have noticed.
Ben Shapiro and Tucker Carlson have publicly clashed over which direction the movement should take.
Turning Point's own staff privately admit the divisions were always there, and that Kirk's presence alone had kept a lid on them.
The Machine Kirk Built Cannot Run on His Last Name Alone
Removing Kirk did not just silence one voice.
It knocked out the one man capable of holding together hawks, restrainers, and everyone in between under a single conservative youth banner.
A year later, the void is doing exactly what his killer's ideology needed it to do, fracturing the machine from the inside without anyone having to fire a second shot.
Turning Point can keep Kirk's name on the building, or it can keep his actual positions, but right now questions are piling up about which one is winning.
Honoring Charlie Kirk this week means more than a tribute video and a chant of his name.
It means finishing the case against the man accused of killing him – or finding who actually did – with real proof, not assumptions, and it means his movement deciding whether it still wants to be the machine he built or something quieter that just borrows his name.
