Trump Kicks WHO to the Curb After 77 Years

The United States officially completed its withdrawal from the World Health Organization on Thursday after a yearlong process that began with President Donald Trump's executive order on his first day back in office.

Trump pulled the plug on America's 77-year membership because the WHO faceplanted during COVID-19 and refused to fix what was broken.

The Department of Health and Human Services laid out exactly why America was done with the WHO in a blistering statement that left no room for interpretation.

WHO's investigation into COVID's origins rejected the lab leak theory even though China refused to provide genetic sequences from early patients or information about Wuhan lab activities and biosafety conditions.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. issued a joint statement making clear WHO had "obstructed the timely and accurate sharing of critical information that could have saved American lives."

WHO Chose China Over America

The Congressional investigation into COVID origins revealed WHO caved to Chinese Communist Party pressure at every turn.

House Republicans concluded after a two-year investigation that WHO placed China's political interests ahead of its international duties.

WHO refused to demand transparency from China about the Wuhan Institute of Virology's gain-of-function research.

The organization blocked efforts to investigate whether the virus escaped from a lab conducting dangerous coronavirus experiments at inadequate biosafety levels.

Former CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield admitted to Congress the virus escaped from that Wuhan lab.

The science pointed straight to an accidental leak.

WHO ignored him and parroted Chinese propaganda about a natural origin even though China couldn't produce a shred of evidence backing that story.

The Trump Administration's withdrawal announcement noted WHO's failure to adopt meaningful reforms after the pandemic "reinforced concerns that politics took priority over rapid, independent public health action."

America has been WHO's biggest financial contributor for decades, shouldering a disproportionate share of costs while the organization kowtowed to China.

The U.S. contributed between $160 million and $815 million annually over the last decade.

WHO claims America owes more than $133 million in unpaid dues for 2024 and 2025, but Trump administration officials say the U.S. has no obligation to pay before withdrawing.

Trump Puts America First on Global Health

Critics in the mainstream media are clutching their pearls over Trump's decision.

Georgetown University public health law professor Lawrence Gostin called it "the most ruinous presidential decision in my lifetime."

These same experts defended WHO's catastrophic COVID response that destroyed millions of American lives through lockdowns, school closures, and arbitrary mandates like the "six feet apart" rule that Dr. Fauci admitted "sort of just appeared" without scientific basis.

WHO flip-flopped on mask guidance without providing scientific data, causing massive public distrust.

Trump understands Americans don't need to outsource health decisions to a corrupt international body that puts China's interests, and the pharmaceutical industry’s, first.

HHS announced America will continue global health leadership through direct bilateral engagements with other countries, private sector partnerships, and faith-based entities.

Trump already secured multiyear bilateral Global Health Cooperation agreements with dozens of countries in December 2025.

America will protect its own interests and those of its allies without WHO bureaucrats standing in the way.

The WHO wanted America to fund their failures while they covered for China.

Trump just showed them the door.
