Trump Gutted This One Biden Office That Became a Hub for Left-Wing Activism

Oct 18, 2025

Donald Trump is taking a blowtorch to Biden’s bloated bureaucracy.

One office became ground zero for radical leftist activism instead of enforcing the law.

And Trump just slashed this one agency that proves government grew out of control under Biden.

Trump Fires 442 HUD Employees in Major Restructuring

More than 400 employees at the Department of Housing and Urban Development just got pink slips.¹

The biggest cuts hit the Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity office – and Trump administration officials say there’s a good reason why.²

This division became a hub for left-wing activism under Joe Biden instead of doing its actual job.³

The layoffs come during the third week of the government shutdown after Democrats refused to pass a temporary funding extension unless Republicans added billions in new spending.⁴

President Trump’s administration told a federal court that roughly 4,000 workers across seven agencies should be let go, including 442 at HUD.⁵

Biden Turned Civil Rights Enforcement Into Ideological Crusade

Here’s what HUD’s Fair Housing office was supposed to do: enforce the Civil Rights Act and process straightforward housing discrimination complaints.⁶

Pretty simple mission.

But under Biden, the office drifted into radical ideological crusades that had nothing to do with enforcing the law.⁷

The office’s budget grew by 20% and nearly 600 people were on staff.⁸

Yet the unit became bogged down with cases built around "systemic racism" theories and identity politics rather than actual discrimination.⁹

Get this – a 2024 inspector general’s report found that FHEO missed the legal 100-day deadline on more than 70% of discrimination complaints.¹⁰

While bureaucrats chased ideological theories, real victims got ignored.

A double-amputee in a wheelchair waited two years for a decision on his complaint after a homeowners’ association blocked him from widening his driveway for accessibility.¹¹

That’s the kind of clear-cut case they should have jumped on immediately.

The Trump administration has since moved to address his case as an example of the department returning to its actual mission.¹²

Pushing Junk Science About Appraisals

Biden’s HUD aggressively pushed the claim that appraisers were undervaluing homes owned by black families compared to white families.¹⁰

This came even though appraisals are driven by sales data and often conducted without knowledge of the homeowner’s race.¹¹

The whole theory was built on progressive assumptions about "systemic bias" rather than how appraisals actually work.

Meanwhile, legitimate complaints about real discrimination sat in bureaucratic limbo for years.

That’s what happens when an office abandons its mission to become an activism shop.

Attempted Federal Takeover of Suburbs

FHEO also pursued sweeping changes that would have redesigned American suburbs by federal mandate.¹²

The division revived the Obama-era "Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing" rule.¹³

Under this regulation, HUD could declare traditional suburban zoning practices discriminatory.¹⁴

The rule would have forced local governments to allow apartment-style density in suburban neighborhoods or risk losing federal funds.¹⁵

Think about that – unelected bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. deciding how your town should be zoned.

The Trump administration has repealed the regulation once again, halting what officials described as a backdoor attempt to "abolish the suburbs."¹⁹

Even some Democrat officials balked at FHEO’s radical theories.

When HUD accused the city of Chicago of "environmental racism" for building a recycling facility in a minority neighborhood, then-Mayor Lori Lightfoot initially blasted the claim as "absurd" before ultimately backing down.²⁰

Office Refocused on Actual Civil Rights Enforcement

A HUD official emphasized that the Trump administration is not eliminating the office, but refocusing it on its actual mandate – enforcing anti-discrimination laws as written, not expanding them to cover unrelated social engineering projects.¹⁸

Communications will now appear only in English, the official said, noting that the lack of translation is not discrimination under the Civil Rights Act.¹⁹

That’s just common sense.

Employees were given 60 days’ notice of the layoffs, which HUD had been planning for months.²⁰

The cuts mark a return to what the office was created to do in the first place – protect Americans from actual housing discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status, or disability.

Not pursue progressive theories about "systemic" problems that require federal control of local zoning.

Pattern of Bloat Across Biden’s Agencies

HUD isn’t the only agency getting trimmed.²¹

Layoffs have also been announced in other bloated departments that drifted from their core missions under Biden.

The IRS is losing 1,400 employees.²²

The Department of Education is cutting 466 positions.²³

The Department of Energy is eliminating 187 jobs.²⁴

The pattern is clear across multiple agencies – Biden let the bureaucracy expand while letting actual mission performance collapse.

Offices grew their budgets and staff while missing deadlines and ignoring the Americans they were supposed to serve.

The moves mark another major step by President Trump to dismantle Biden-era bureaucratic expansions and return federal agencies to their core functions.²⁵

For folks who’ve watched the federal government grow out of control, this is exactly what they voted for in November.

Trump is keeping his promise to drain the swamp and make government work for the people again – not for leftist activists with government credentials.
