Tim Walz Just Said Three Words That Put One Ugly Chapter of His Career to Rest

Jan 31, 2026

Tim Walz crashed and burned on the national stage alongside Kamala Harris.

The Minnesota Governor has been backpedaling ever since.

And Tim Walz just said three words that put one ugly chapter of his career to rest.

The Spectacular Rise and Fall of "Tampon Tim"

Walz went from complete obscurity to the Democrat vice presidential ticket in August 2024 after Kamala Harris selected him as her running mate.

Democrats insisted his "folksy dad" routine and progressive record would help Harris lock down the Midwest.

Then reality broke wide open.

Now it seems more like he was put on the ticket because there was something lurking in the background that he could be controlled by.

Walz bombed the vice presidential debate against JD Vance while the ticket went down to humiliating defeat in November.

But losing the election was just the beginning of Walz's problems.

The Governor found himself drowning in a massive fraud scandal that exposed billions in taxpayer dollars stolen through Minnesota's child care welfare programs.

Over 90 people have been charged in what federal prosecutors called the "largest pandemic fraud in the United States."

The scandal consumed Walz's administration.

President Trump hammered him relentlessly, calling him "seriously retarded" over his handling of the crisis while demanding answers about whether stolen tax dollars funded Somali terrorist groups.

Walz couldn't escape the scrutiny and dropped his 2026 reelection bid in January.

Walz Makes His Stunning Announcement

Now Walz went even further and declared he's done with politics for good.

During a Wednesday interview with MS Now, Walz dropped the bombshell that shocked Minnesota politics.

"Never again," Walz said when asked if he'd run for office.

The Governor told the outlet he will "never run for an elected office again" and currently has "no political considerations."

Walz claimed he'll just focus on his remaining time as Governor and find "other ways to serve" after his term expires.

He tried to sound philosophical about stepping away from electoral politics.

"And I will just do the work," Walz said, adding that "old white guys who are former governors tend to land on their feet."

The comment reeked of a man watching his political dreams go up in flames.

The Fraud Scandal That Ended Walz's Career

Walz's exit from politics came after the child care fraud scandal reached critical mass.

The predominantly Somali-run operations in Minneapolis-St. Paul exploited a Biden-era pandemic welfare program that partnered with Minnesota's Department of Education.

Investigations revealed massive fraud as fake child care centers claimed payments for children who never existed.

State audits found failures by Walz's Education Department led directly to the misuse of pandemic funds.

Republican officials had warned for years that Minnesota was slow to act and failed basic due diligence.

But Walz's administration didn't want to look "racist" by cracking down on Somali-run fraud operations.

The Treasury Department launched an investigation into whether stolen tax dollars flowed to al-Shabaab, the al Qaeda affiliate operating in Somalia.

Walz tried blaming Republicans for "political gamesmanship" while Trump's administration froze federal funding to Minnesota's child care programs.

The Governor's political allies privately told him to abandon his reelection campaign.

Several Democrats compared his doomed third-term run to Biden's disastrous 2024 campaign that destroyed the party.

Walz finally took the hint and dropped out, claiming he couldn't "give a political campaign my all" while defending against the fraud crisis.

Walz's Final Act of Desperation

Even after announcing his political retirement, Walz couldn't resist taking one last shot at JD Vance.

During a Monday podcast appearance on The Bulwark, Walz claimed he could "beat the shit out of" Vance in a debate rematch.

"Yes, I would beat the shit out of him now, if I could, and I would call that out!" Walz told host Tim Miller about a hypothetical second debate with Vance.

Walz admitted he bombed the first debate because he "got sucked in" by Vance's smooth delivery and couldn't tell when Vance was lying.

The comment revealed everything voters need to know about why Walz failed.

Vance destroyed him in their debate while polls showed viewers overwhelmingly declared Vance the winner.

Even Kamala Harris wrote in her campaign memoir that she felt disappointed by Walz's pathetic performance.

Walz's tough talk came from a guy who just announced he's quitting politics forever after getting exposed as a fraud-enabling failure.

Minnesota Republicans celebrated Walz's exit.

Rep. Tom Emmer summed up the mood perfectly with two words: "Good riddance."

Walz's political career followed the same trajectory as the Harris-Walz ticket.

Brief hype, spectacular failure, and permanent retirement from the national stage.
