A season ticket holder walked into an MLS stadium wearing a red hat, and security threatened him with arrest.
That video went viral – and six months later, the team just made a move that has their own fan base screaming betrayal.
What Saint Louis City SC just announced proves something every woke corporation eventually learns the hard way, and it's exactly what Michael Weitzel deserved to see.
The Hat That Shook a Stadium
Last July, Weitzel attended a St. Louis City SC match wearing a MAGA hat.
Stadium security surrounded him, told him the venue was "non-political," and warned he'd be "escorted out in handcuffs" if he refused to leave.
He offered to simply remove the hat and return to his seat.
Security told him, "We are way past that point."
He was a three-year season ticket holder.
While security marched Weitzel toward the exit, BLM flags, Pride flags, and a transgender banner reading "Love Always Wins" were flying freely on the opposite end of the stadium.
He pointed this out.
Security told him those banners had been "pre-approved."
His hat had not.

What a Viral Video Does to a Team's Bank Account
The video Weitzel posted didn't just spark outrage – it put St. Louis City SC's double standard on a national stage.
Fox News covered it. Conservative commentators lit up. Fans across Missouri – a deep-red state – started asking why they should hand their money to a stadium where their political views made them unwelcome.
The lesson every woke corporation eventually learns is the same one Nike, Bud Light, and the NFL kneelers taught America: when you pick political sides, you lose half your customers.
MLS attendance dropped 5.4 percent across the league in 2025 – the year after Weitzel's ejection went national.
St. Louis City SC apparently did the math.
The 180 That Has Leftists Losing Their Minds
At a preseason meeting with fan groups on February 11, St. Louis City SC announced a "new interpretation of policies."
The BLM flag? Gone.
The "Love Always Wins" transgender banner? Gone.
Both had hung in the stadium's north end for all three seasons of the team's existence – right up until a MAGA hat made their selective enforcement impossible to defend.
The team cited consistency with MLS-wide stadium signage policies.
Sam Wise, co-founder of the Fleur de Noise supporter group, is now experiencing in real time what Thomas Sowell warned about decades ago: when people get used to preferential treatment, equal treatment feels like discrimination.
Wise argued the BLM and trans banners aren't political – they're just support for "marginalized communities."
Every Trump voter Michael Weitzel spoke to on his way out of Energizer Park would like a word.
They're Threatening to Leave and That's the Best Thing That Could Happen
Leftist supporter groups are now threatening to boycott St. Louis City SC to protest the ban on their political flags.
Let them go.
This is how you fix a team that alienated the wrong half of its market: you stop catering exclusively to a progressive bubble and start welcoming back the families and fans from red Missouri who stopped showing up after Weitzel's video.
Those boycotting activists didn't buy jerseys from Trump country anyway.
The irony here is thick enough to cut with a knife – the same crowd that cheered when Weitzel got thrown out for a hat is now threatening to leave because their flags got treated the same way his hat was.
That's not discrimination. That's justice. And Michael Weitzel – who was told he was "way past the point" of being allowed to stay – got to watch the whole thing happen without spending a dime.
