Taylor Swift just caused this huge controversy for the Kansas City Chiefs

Oct 23, 2024

Taylor Swift’s relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is still one of the biggest stories in the NFL.

But intrigue is never far behind the world’s most famous woman.

And Taylor Swift just caused this huge controversy for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Is Taylor Swift the cause of Travis Kelce’s slow start

The Kansas City Chiefs jumped out to a 5-0 start to begin their quest for a three-peat.

But a growing subplot to the 2024 campaign is the fact that Kelce has yet to catch a touchdown pass.

Former ESPN analyst Todd McShay made this lack of production a public debate by telling The Ringer’s Ryen Russillo that Kelce’s partying with Swift caused him to get out of shape, leading to his subpar play.

“Every show I watch, every pregame show, halftime show, postgame show, weekday show, every broadcast I watch for the last few weeks, it’s like, are we not allowed to say that he’s out of shape? That he’s been partying all offseason? He’s been jet-setting around with the most famous person, probably in the entire world. That he’s drinking… going to the U.S. Open, he’s got cocktails in…” McShay stated.

“What I do know is: I want you to take a picture from preseason 2022 and then take a picture preseason 2024; they’re barely the same human being, Ryan,” added McShay. “And everyone’s like, ‘We gotta get him the ball. Why isn’t he part of the offense? The defense is double-covering (him).’ Here’s the thing, bottom line with Kelce, the coverage and the respect he gets is the same; the athlete is not,” McShay added.

Podcast host Dan Le Batard pressed Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo about McShay’s comments on a recent episode of his show.

Kansas Chiefs players and coaches deny relationship with Swift hurt Kelce’s production

“I don’t hear it. I don’t feel it,” Spagnuolo said about the idea that Kelce jet-setting with Swift is hurting his place on the field.

Spagnuolo added that he tries to avoid the tabloid gossip.

“I’m not flipping through the phone looking at that stuff. So I don’t really hear it,” Spagnuolo added.

Spagnuolo expressed confidence that when the money was on the line in the playoffs, Kelce would be in top form.

“We don’t worry about Travis,” Spagnuolo concluded. “There’s some guys in all of these professional sports that you know when you’re gonna need them the most they’re going to show up, and that’s Travis.”

Swift and Kelce attended Game One of the American League Championship Series between the New York Yankees and the Cleveland Indians.

That sojourn to New York in the middle of the season will do nothing to quell the concerns that Kelce is more concerned with making the scene, as opposed to making the end zone.

But as Spagnuolo said, as long as Kelce shows up in the playoffs and the Chiefs win, no one will remember that Kelce didn’t catch a touchdown the first five weeks of the season.
