Switzerland just showed the world how far Europe has fallen down the rabbit hole of woke insanity.
A Swiss wind instrument repairman was sent to prison because he dared to state a basic fact on Facebook.
And Emanuel Brünisholz chose jail over paying the government’s outrageous fine for his "crime" of saying one simple truth on Facebook.
Swiss Government Prosecutes Man for Stating Scientific Fact
Emanuel Brünisholz thought he was living in a free country when he posted on Facebook about biological reality.
The wind instrument repairman from Switzerland wrote what millions of people believe: "If you dig up LGBTQI people after 200 years, you’ll only find men and women based on their skeletons. Everything else is a mental illness promoted through the curriculum."¹
That post responding to Swiss National Council member Andreas Glarner landed Brünisholz in hot water with Switzerland’s thought police.
LGBT activists immediately complained to authorities, claiming his Facebook post amounted to "public incitement to hatred" under Article 261bis of the Swiss Criminal Code.²
The law originally targeted racial and religious hate speech when it was created in 1995.
But in 2020, Swiss lawmakers expanded it to criminalize any speech that hurts the feelings of people claiming non-traditional sexual identities.
Burgdorf Police summoned Brünisholz for questioning on August 15, 2023, demanding he explain what he meant by his statement.
"Well, that those who think there’s not just man and woman, I want to tell them that there’s only man and woman," Brünisholz responded to the officers.³
He also called the "LGBTQI community" an "extremist bunch" – which apparently sealed his fate with Swiss authorities.
The Bernese judiciary ruled that his Facebook post "publicly belittled the group of LGBT(Q)I people based on their sexual orientation and in a way that violates human dignity."⁴
Swiss Court Doubles Down After Man Refuses to Pay Woke Fine
The court initially fined Brünisholz 500 Swiss francs – about $580 – with the threat of 10 days in prison if he refused to pay.
Brünisholz objected to the ruling, which any reasonable person would do when being prosecuted for stating scientific facts.
But instead of backing down, a regional court upheld the original decision and added another 600-franc fine on top.
That’s when Brünisholz made his choice clear.
Rather than pay nearly $1,200 to the Swiss government for the privilege of stating biological reality, he decided to serve the jail time instead.
"It’s happening. On December 2, I’m going to prison for 10 days!" Brünisholz announced on social media.⁵
His decision sparked immediate outrage from people who still believe in free speech and basic biology.
Critics denounced the Swiss court’s decision as straight out of George Orwell’s 1984, pointing out that Switzerland is literally imprisoning a citizen for stating scientific facts.
"1984 is here," one user wrote online, noting that Brünisholz was "going to prison for stating a fact."⁶
The Real Crime Here Isn’t What This Man Posted on Facebook
Look, here’s what’s really happening in Switzerland and across Europe.
Government officials have decided that biological facts are now "hate speech" if they make certain activist groups uncomfortable.
Laura Wadsworth got right to the point in her response to this insanity: "Male and female skeletons ARE different. We can find a 1,000-year-old skeleton and know whether it was male or female. We are living through the stupidest age in the history of the world."⁷
She’s absolutely right.
Archaeologists have been identifying male and female remains for centuries based on skeletal differences.
It’s basic science that any first-year anthropology student learns.
But now Switzerland’s courts have decided that mentioning this scientific reality in a Facebook post is a criminal offense worthy of jail time.
The most disturbing part? This isn’t some accidental overreach by one rogue judge.
Switzerland deliberately expanded its hate speech laws in 2020 specifically to criminalize statements about biological sex and gender identity.
They knew exactly what they were doing when they gave activist groups the power to use the criminal justice system as their personal enforcement arm.
For Americans watching this unfold, it should serve as a stark warning about where hate speech laws inevitably lead.
Today it’s Switzerland throwing a man in jail for saying there are two genders.
Tomorrow it could be any of us facing prison time for stating facts that make the wrong people angry.
Emanuel Brünisholz chose ten days in prison over surrendering his right to speak the truth.
That kind of backbone is exactly what’s needed to push back against this authoritarian madness – before it spreads even further.
