Richard Blumenthal once told veterans he served in Vietnam – he never set foot there.
Now the Connecticut senator who lied about his own war record is making a new prediction about American law enforcement.
What he just said about ICE agents heading to airports will make your blood boil.
Blumenthal Claims ICE Agents at Airports Will Shoot and Kill Families
Trump announced ICE agents would deploy to at least 14 major airports across the country Monday.
The reason is simple: Democrats have blocked DHS funding for weeks.
More than 400 TSA officers have quit because they haven't received paychecks.
Lines at airports like Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson and JFK in New York have stretched to two hours or more.
Spring break families are missing flights.
Trump's solution – deploy ICE to handle crowd control, check IDs, and guard exit lanes – letting TSA officers focus on the specialized screening work they were trained to do.
Tom Homan, Trump's border czar, was explicit: "We're simply there to help TSA do their job in areas that don't need their specialized expertise."
Blumenthal's response was to warn that ICE agents at airports would be "dragging parents from children, detaining citizens, brutalizing families, shooting & even killing."
Not maybe.
Not possibly.
He said ICE will do this.
He also posted that "brutal, lawless tactics common in communities across the country by masked, unidentified agents, violating basic rights" had no place near TSA or travelers.
This is not a policy disagreement.
This is a sitting U.S. senator predicting mass violence against American travelers – with zero evidence – to frighten your grandchildren out of flying home for Easter.
Democrats Caused the TSA Shutdown and Now They're Blaming Trump
Let's be clear about who created this crisis.
Democrats voted to block DHS funding – not once, but repeatedly.
They demanded new restrictions on ICE before they'd release money that was, as Trump put it, "long ago agreed to with signed and sealed contracts."
Every missed paycheck that drove a TSA officer to quit falls on them.
Every two-hour security line your family stood in this spring break falls on them.
The DHS said it directly: "This pointless, reckless shutdown of our homeland security workforce has caused more than 400 TSA officers to quit and thousands to call out from work because they are not able to afford gas, childcare, food, or rent."
Democrats created the staffing collapse.
Trump fixed it.
And Blumenthal's response is to scream that the fix is going to get people killed.
Democrats' Rhetoric Has Already Gotten ICE Officers Shot
This isn't new.
The White House documented 57 separate incidents of Democrats attacking ICE agents as Nazis, Gestapo thugs, and terrorists – rhetoric the administration has directly linked to a 1,300% surge in assaults against ICE officers.
DHS reported that from January 2025 through January 2026, ICE officers were hit with 66 vehicular attacks – compared to just two the previous year.
A gunman in Dallas walked into an ICE field office carrying ammunition stamped with anti-ICE messaging.
Words have consequences.
When Blumenthal tells Americans that ICE agents will shoot families at airports, he isn't making a policy argument.
He's adding fuel to a fire that has already gotten federal officers shot, run over, and ambushed.
And this is the same man who, for years, told veterans and civic groups about his service "in Vietnam" – until the New York Times obtained his military records and revealed he never deployed there.
He collected five draft deferments, then enlisted in a Marine Reserve unit stateside that was never sent overseas.
When he got caught, he said he "misspoke."
Not once – on multiple documented occasions.
The VFW demanded an apology.
A Vietnam combat veteran running against him called it "stolen valor."
A senator willing to lie to veterans about his own war record will say anything to win a news cycle.
What Blumenthal said this weekend – that American law enforcement officers are going to airports to shoot your family – is the most dangerous thing he has ever said.
The men and women of ICE are putting on their gear and showing up to help you get home for Easter.
Blumenthal is telling you to be afraid of them.
