A 2028 wannabe thought he could play tough guy politics with the Trump administration.
But he just made one massive miscalculation.
And Steve Doocy got Trump to deliver one message that had leftists in total panic.
Newsom dared Tom Homan to arrest him and got more than he bargained for
California Governor Gavin Newsom has been one of the loudest voices trying to obstruct President Trump’s immigration enforcement efforts.
The Golden State governor has positioned himself as the face of the resistance to Trump’s deportation operations.
Newsom went so far as to dare Border Czar Tom Homan to come arrest him for interfering with ICE operations.
But Newsom’s chest-thumping bravado backfired in spectacular fashion when President Trump was asked about it by Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy.
"He’s daring Tom Homan to come and arrest him. Should he do it?" Doocy asked Trump as he stepped off Marine One.
Trump didn’t hesitate with his response.
"I would do it if I were Tom," Trump fired back. "I think it’s great. Gavin likes the publicity. But I do think it would be a great thing. He’s done a terrible job. I like Gavin Newsom. He’s a nice guy, but he’s grossly incompetent. Everybody knows."
That’s the kind of direct talk that made Trump President again.
While other politicians dance around tough questions, Trump cuts right to the heart of the matter.
Newsom wanted to play political theater by daring the Trump administration to arrest him.
Trump called his bluff and said he’d be happy to oblige.
Anti-ICE riots expose the radical Left’s true colors
The backdrop to this confrontation was the chaos that erupted in Los Angeles over the weekend.
Anti-ICE protesters took to the streets and showed their true colors by attacking law enforcement officers and burning American flags.
These weren’t peaceful protesters exercising their First Amendment rights.
They were violent agitators who threw projectiles at police and torched cars in the streets.
"The people that are causing the problem are professional agitators. They’re insurrectionists. They’re bad people. They should be in jail," Trump said.
The President was exactly right.
These rioters weren’t concerned citizens expressing their views.
They were professional troublemakers looking to cause maximum chaos and destruction.
Tom Homan laid out the bright line between legal protest and criminal behavior during an appearance on Fox & Friends.
"You can protest, you get your First Amendment rights," Homan explained. "But when you cross that line, you put hands on an ICE officer, or you destroy property, or I’d say that you impede law enforcement, or you’re knowingly harboring and concealing an illegal alien… that’s a crime, and the Trump administration is not going to tolerate it."
Homan made it clear that "no one’s above the law" when asked if governors or mayors could face arrest for obstructing immigration enforcement.
Newsom plays the victim card after getting called out
After Trump’s comments, Newsom immediately ran to social media to play the victim.
"The President of the United States just called for the arrest of a sitting Governor," Newsom wrote on X. "This is a day I hoped I would never see in America. I don’t care if you’re a Democrat or a Republican this is a line we cannot cross as a nation — this is an unmistakable step toward authoritarianism."
That’s rich coming from someone who has spent years weaponizing state power against conservatives.
Newsom is the same governor who locked down California during COVID while dining at fancy restaurants with his political donors.
He’s the same governor who has turned California into a haven for illegal aliens while American citizens suffer from rising crime and homelessness.
And now he wants to lecture Trump about authoritarianism?
Newsom dared the Trump administration to arrest him for obstructing federal immigration law.
Trump said he’d be happy to take him up on that dare.
Now Newsom is crying about authoritarianism because he got the response he asked for.
The truth is Newsom knew exactly what he was doing when he issued his dare.
He wanted to create a media spectacle and position himself as the leader of the anti-Trump resistance.
But Trump turned the tables on him by calling his bluff.
National Guard deployed to restore order
The situation in Los Angeles got so bad that Trump had to deploy 2,000 National Guard troops to restore order.
That’s what happens when local Democrats refuse to enforce the law and allow violent mobs to terrorize communities.
Trump stepped in to do what Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass refused to do – protect law-abiding citizens from violent criminals.
The deployment of the National Guard sent a clear message that the Trump administration won’t tolerate lawlessness in American cities.
Democrats are furious that Trump took decisive action to restore order.
They preferred the chaos because it served their political purposes.
But Trump put public safety ahead of politics and did what needed to be done.
This confrontation between Trump and Newsom perfectly captures the choice facing America.
On one side, you have Trump fighting to secure the border and enforce immigration law.
On the other side, you have Democrats like Newsom who want to obstruct federal law enforcement and create sanctuary cities for illegal aliens.
The American people made their choice in November when they elected Trump by a landslide.
They want secure borders and the rule of law restored.
Newsom’s grandstanding won’t change that reality.
