Donald Trump’s first few weeks in office have seen a President take more dramatic action than any in recent memory.
But there is trouble on the horizon.
And Steve Bannon had some bad news for Donald Trump about this upcoming fight.
Swamp sets a trap for Trump in upcoming government funding fight
Funding for the federal government runs out on March 14.
That’s a minefield for Donald Trump.
Congress usually dithers and never takes action up until the final deadline, which is the September 30 end of fiscal year date.
In an article entitled Trump Might Be Stuck With Biden’s Funding Priorities For Longer Than GOP Hoped, The Hill reports top Congressional appropriators are discussing the possibility of passing a continuing resolution to keep the government funded while they hammer out a budget.
Steve Bannon sounded the alarm over this prospect on his War Room show as a continuing resolution that would keep Joe Biden’s funding levels in place while overriding the budget cuts identified by Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
“Forget the reconciliation, all these people running around, even the DOGE situation, which is very important, but there is a statutory process about spending and taxing in the United States, the appropriations process, the budget process,” Bannon stated.
Bannon warned that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) was already preparing to jam Trump with a last-minute offer of signing a continuing resolution or shutting down the government by virtue of the fact that he didn’t even set a topline number for the budget in the current negotiations.
“This is why Johnson once again has no top-line number in the budget. This, the CR was kicked down to March 14th. The clocks ticking, at midnight baby, over, the government’s out of money. President Trump’s government is out of money. Think about that for a second,” Bannon added.
Bannon said the DOGE team could identify as much as $1 trillion a year in spending cuts to set America on a path to dealing with the debt crisis.
“The DOGE guys can round up right now, I think, I don’t know, they can give us $500 billion in cuts — halfway to Elon’s $1 trillion per year. I want the $1 trillion, but I understand in this measure, in this timing, they may not be able to do it. Just round up,” Bannon continued.
But Bannon argued it would all be for nought with a continuing resolution that freezes spending at Biden levels.
Bannon cautioned that Johnson and other Congressional leaders “hoodwinked” President Trump into buying into their funding plan.
“President Trump essentially, I think is being hoodwinked. And someone has got to sit there and say, look, here it is. Cause that’s reality,” Bannon admitted.
And Bannon said there wasn’t much time to spare.
Joe Biden’s spending binge set America up for $2 trillion deficits for as far as the eye could see, which Bannon cautioned meant the end of the republic.
“What we want is lower spending. That’s gotta be the first. The debt is spinning out of control. The Congressional Budget Office, I don’t always agree with their numbers, but mathematically here is directionally correct. It’s $2 trillion per year in perpetuity, in perpetuity, in perpetuity,” Bannon declared.
“It’s $52 trillion in 10 years. You are done. This republic is done. Your kids are done, your grandkids are done,” Bannon concluded.
