Robert Kennedy's son Michael died on an Aspen ski slope on New Year's Eve in 1997.
His daughter Kyle grew up to beat his Boston Marathon time by twenty minutes.
But the Kennedy curse was not finished with Michael Kennedy's little girl.
Kyle Kennedy Died At Her Westwood Home At 42
Kyle Francis Kennedy, granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy, has died at 42.
Her obituary says she "passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026 at her home in Westwood, Massachusetts."
People reported her death on October 20, nearly a month after she died.
Funeral services were private.
No cause of death has been released.
The Westwood Town Clerk told People the determination is "pending."
The magazine also reported that the manner of death remains under investigation.
She leaves behind two young sons, Conor and Declan.
Her uncle is Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Michael's older brother.
Frank Gifford's Granddaughter Ran Boston in the Pouring Rain
Kyle carried the blood of two American dynasties.
Her mother, Victoria, is the daughter of New York Giants legend Frank Gifford – the Hall of Famer millions of Americans welcomed into their living rooms on Monday Night Football.
Gifford played for the Giants from 1952 to 1964 and died in 2015 at 84.
Her father was one of Bobby and Ethel's eleven children.
She was 13 when he died.
Born in Washington in 1984, she made Massachusetts home for most of her life.
She won Latin awards at Milton Academy and majored in history at Georgetown.
She taught two years in New York City public schools through Teach For America.
She went on to earn a master's in early education from Pace University and another from Harvard's Graduate School of Education.
She backed charter schools, mentored early-grade teachers, and worked with tech firms on classroom curriculum.
Boston 25 News described her as a "passionate advocate" for elementary education and for people living with disabilities.
A distance runner, she took on the Boston Marathon in 2019 through sheets of rain and finished twenty minutes ahead of her father's time.
The 2020 Spinal Cord Injury That Left Her Paralyzed
A year later, everything changed.
The Boston Globe, quoting her obituary, reported that the 2020 spinal cord injury brought "long term paralysis, disability, and other medical challenges."
Her obituary does not say how it happened.
The detail is a cruel echo of 1997.
Her father died after slamming into a tree while playing football on skis on Aspen Mountain, and the autopsy found his spinal cord severed.
The Pitkin County deputy coroner said that had Michael survived, he would have been paralyzed from the neck down.
Twenty-three years later, the same kind of injury found his daughter.
She refused to fold.
She took her fight to the Massachusetts State House, testifying against the discrimination disabled patients face in health care.
Her family wrote that she "fought to maintain her dry wit and determination through it all."
She stayed a devoted mother to her boys and kept up with her two Wheaten terriers.
Years earlier, she had already lost her infant daughter Josephine, Conor's twin, just days after birth.
Josephine was one of three children Kyle had with Liam Kerr, whom she married in 2012.
From Joe Kennedy Jr. to Tatiana Schlossberg the Kennedy Losses Keep Coming
Joseph Kennedy Jr. was killed in World War II in 1944, and his sister Kathleen died in a plane crash in France four years later.
Americans of a certain age remember Dallas in 1963, the Ambassador Hotel in 1968, and the plane that went down off Martha's Vineyard in 1999.
Bobby and Ethel's son David died of an overdose in 1984.
In 2019, their granddaughter Saoirse Kennedy Hill died at 22 at the family compound in Hyannis Port.
In 2020, their granddaughter Maeve Kennedy McKean and her 8-year-old son Gideon were lost paddling a canoe on the Chesapeake Bay.
In December 2025, JFK's granddaughter Tatiana Schlossberg died of leukemia at 35.
Ethel Kennedy herself died in October 2024 at 96, leaving behind 34 grandchildren.
Kyle Kennedy is now another name on that list.
She could have lived quietly off the Kennedy name, and she chose public school classrooms instead.
The Kennedy name opened every door in America, and it never once stopped grief from walking in behind it.
Two boys, 12 and 10, have now lost their mother at nearly the same age she was when she lost her father.
They will grow up the way she did, with a famous last name and an empty chair at the table.
No amount of fame fixes that part of the Kennedy story.
