Pam Bondi faces mounting pressure after James Comey’s alarming Trump post raised questions about DOJ family ties

May 16, 2025

Attorney General Pam Bondi is facing growing backlash from conservatives over a disturbing situation involving the Comey family.

Trump allies are demanding answers about why relatives of the former FBI director remain in powerful positions.

And Pam Bondi faces mounting pressure after James Comey’s alarming Trump post raised questions about DOJ family ties.

Social media firestorm erupts over Comey’s cryptic message

Former FBI Director James Comey ignited a firestorm Thursday when he shared a highly controversial photo on Instagram that quickly drew the attention of federal investigators and Trump supporters nationwide.

The now-deleted post showed what Comey described as a “shell formation” on a beach that spelled out “86 47.”

For those unfamiliar with restaurant industry lingo, “86” is commonly used to mean eliminate or get rid of something. And “47” clearly refers to Donald Trump, the 47th President of the United States.

The post triggered immediate concerns, with the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, and Secret Service launching investigations into what Secretary Kristi Noem described as a “direct threat” to President Trump’s life.

Comey hastily deleted the post and denied any malicious intent, but the damage was already done.

Former New York Mayor and Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani quickly sounded the alarm, highlighting what many Trump supporters have been saying for years – why are Comey’s family members still employed in the Department of Justice under Attorney General Pam Bondi?

“James Comey posted a message calling for the [assassination] of the 47th president,” Giuliani wrote on social media. “This raises serious concerns about his daughter and son-in-law, both employed under Pam Bondi at DOJ.”

Comey family connections raise serious concerns

The controversy centers around two key Comey family members who hold influential positions within the DOJ.

Maurene Comey, James Comey’s daughter, serves as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Southern District of New York (SDNY), where she heads the Violent and Organized Crime Unit. Her husband, Lucas Issacharoff, also works as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the same district.

These connections have conservative commentators questioning Attorney General Bondi’s judgment in keeping these family members in sensitive positions given James Comey’s open hostility toward President Trump.

Maurene Comey’s legal career has placed her at the center of several high-profile cases. According to Newsweek, she was selected for the prosecution team against Jeffrey Epstein before his death in August 2019, and later served on the team prosecuting Ghislaine Maxwell. Currently, she is part of the DOJ’s team handling the case against P. Diddy.

“Maurene Comey, an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York (SDNY), is one of the lead prosecutors in the criminal case against Maxwell, and had been picked to hold a similar role in the case of the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein prior to his death,” Newsweek reported.

Social media erupts with calls for action

The situation has ignited a firestorm on social media, with prominent conservative voices demanding that Bondi take immediate action.

One account, Marco Polo, tagged Bondi directly: “Why don’t you remind @PamBondi/@AGPamBondi to relieve the criminal & leaker’s daughter from her post at the @SDNYnews? She was literally in court today, and likely will be tomorrow, holding herself out as the attorney on behalf of the United States of America.”

Kyle Becker highlighted Maurene Comey’s role in high-profile cases, noting: “Maureen Comey, the daughter of former FBI Director James Comey, was a prosecutor on the Epstein case and is now a prosecutor in the Diddy case. There has been no justice for victims and almost no arrests made in either of these high-profile cases.”

Another user, Steve Ferguson, put it bluntly: “Hey @AGPamBondi: I just found yet another reason to fire Maureen Comey who works at the SDNY.”

Gateway Pundit flags ongoing Comey connections

The Gateway Pundit’s Joe Hoft previously highlighted Maurene Comey’s ongoing role at the DOJ, noting her transition from the Epstein and Maxwell cases to the current prosecution of P. Diddy.

Maurene Comey is a Harvard Law School graduate who has been with the SDNY since 2015, according to her LinkedIn profile. At just 32 years old, she has already been involved in several major cases, including the prosecution of former gynecologist Robert Hadden, who was accused of sexually assaulting as many as 70 women.

Questions mount for Bondi

The controversy places Attorney General Bondi in a difficult position. As a Trump nominee who has championed the President’s agenda, she now faces questions about why she has allowed individuals with such close ties to one of Trump’s most vocal critics to remain in positions of influence within her department.

So far, Bondi has not issued a public response to the growing criticism, but the pressure continues to mount as more conservatives voice their concerns about the Comey family connections within the DOJ.

The situation highlights the ongoing tensions within the government as President Trump works to reshape federal agencies that have historically been resistant to his agenda.
