A Biden-appointed judge just proved why so many Americans have lost faith in the justice system.
She handed down a slap-on-the-wrist sentence to the man who tried to murder Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
And Attorney General Pam Bondi dropped the hammer after one Biden judge made this outrageous decision about Justice Kavanaugh’s would-be assassin.
Biden judge gives would-be killer a gift
The facts of this case should make every American’s blood boil.
In June 2022, Nicholas Roske – a 26-year-old radical leftist – traveled from California to Maryland with one goal in mind: assassinate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Roske arrived at Kavanaugh’s home armed with a Glock 17 pistol, ammunition, a tactical light, zip ties, pepper spray, and burglary tools.
This wasn’t some spur-of-the-moment decision.
The Justice Department’s own prosecutors documented how Roske’s "actions and intent were determined, focused, and undeterred for months."
The would-be assassin specifically targeted Kavanaugh in the lead-up to the Supreme Court’s landmark Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade.
This was a calculated attempt to intimidate the Court and overturn American democracy through violence.
Federal prosecutors sought a sentence of 30 years to life – which would have sent a clear message that political assassination attempts won’t be tolerated in America.
Instead, Biden-appointed U.S. District Judge Deborah Boardman sentenced Roske to just 97 months – eight years and one month – in prison with lifetime supervision.
Eight years for attempting to murder a sitting Supreme Court Justice.
Bondi promises swift action
Attorney General Pam Bondi wasn’t having any of it.
She immediately announced that the Justice Department would appeal Judge Boardman’s "woefully insufficient" sentence.
"The attempted assassination of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was a disgusting attack against our entire judicial system by a profoundly disturbed individual," Bondi wrote on X.¹
Bondi continued, "The Justice Department will be appealing the woefully insufficient sentence imposed by the district court, which does not reflect the horrific facts of this case."
The Attorney General understands what Judge Boardman apparently doesn’t – that lenient sentences for political violence only encourage more attacks.
Justice Department prosecutors made this exact point in their sentencing memo, writing that "the sentence imposed in this case must send the powerful message, both to the defendant and to others who contemplate committing assassination to obstruct judicial independence, that these ends never justify the means."²
They added that potential copycats need to understand "that the consequences are not worth engaging in these acts."
Judge Boardman ignored this critical need for deterrence.
The dangerous precedent being set
Look at what’s really happening here.
A radical leftist travels across the country with weapons and burglary tools to murder a Supreme Court Justice because he disagrees with an upcoming ruling.
And a Biden judge treats this like it’s some minor offense worthy of less time than many drug dealers receive.
That’s not justice anymore, that’s something else entirely.
You want to know what makes this even worse? Charlie Kirk’s assassination is still fresh in everyone’s mind. Conservative figures are getting death threats left and right. And this judge decides now is the perfect time to go easy on political assassins.
Judge Boardman bought Roske’s sob story hook, line, and sinker. There he was in court claiming he felt bad about it all, saying he could finally see how "destructive and misguided" his actions were.³
Give me a break. You plan for months to murder a Supreme Court Justice and we’re supposed to believe you had some sudden awakening after getting caught?
Here’s what really happened – Roske’s lawyers played the transgender card. Pure and simple. They figured a Biden judge would eat up the whole identity politics angle, and guess what? It worked.
The defense team trotted out the usual talking points about "mental health struggles" and "gender dysphoria."⁴
And Boardman? She actually factored Roske’s claimed transgender status into the sentence, wringing her hands about prison housing under Trump’s policies.
Bondi saw right through the whole performance. She knows exactly what this really is – an attack on the rule of law disguised as social justice.
Her swift action to appeal this outrageous sentence shows the Trump Administration won’t tolerate judicial activism that puts politics above justice.
The coordinated attack on our judicial system
Here’s what they’re not telling you about this case.
Roske didn’t just plan to kill Kavanaugh – he researched multiple conservative Supreme Court Justices and planned to kill three of them to change the Court’s composition.⁵
The would-be assassin conducted "online reconnaissance about the justices over 60 times" and researched grotesque methods of murder, including Google searches for "how far into the neck is the trachea" and "Does twisting or dragging a knife cause more damage."⁶
This was part of a broader campaign of intimidation against conservative justices that included illegal protests outside their homes and explicit threats from Democrat politicians.
The Supreme Court has faced unprecedented attacks from the radical Left since the Dobbs decision.
Protesters surrounded justices’ homes in violation of federal law while Democrat politicians openly called for defying Court rulings.
This atmosphere of intimidation and lawlessness culminated in Roske’s assassination attempt.
Judge Boardman’s lenient sentence sends exactly the wrong message at exactly the wrong time.
It tells every radical leftist that attempting to murder conservative Supreme Court Justices will be treated as a minor offense.
That’s not just wrong – it’s dangerous for every American who believes in the rule of law.
FBI Director Kash Patel understood the stakes when he said, "Nicholas Roske will now pay the price for attempting to assassinate a Supreme Court Justice in a violent plot to alter the court’s composition and its rulings."⁷
But eight years isn’t paying the price – it’s getting a discount for political terrorism.
Pam Bondi understands that protecting our judicial system means holding would-be assassins accountable with serious prison time.
Her appeal of this disgraceful sentence can’t come soon enough.
