Oscar De La Hoya finally settled his messy divorce with one stunning revelation

Nov 29, 2025

Boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya has been through his share of public battles inside and outside the ring.

But nothing quite prepared him for the legal nightmare that dragged on for nearly a decade.

And Oscar De La Hoya finally settled his messy divorce with one stunning revelation.

The Golden Boy's long-overdue legal victory

After separating from wife Millie Corretjer in 2016, Oscar De La Hoya waited until January 2023 to officially file for divorce.

Now, nearly three years after that filing and nine years after their split, the former six-division world champion can finally close the book on this chapter of his life.

Court documents obtained by TMZ Sports show both parties appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court and reached an agreement to finalize their dissolution of marriage.

The settlement terms remain confidential under the agreement, but court filings reveal that De La Hoya waived his right to receive spousal support from Corretjer.¹

Instead, the documents indicate Corretjer will receive payments "according to their agreement."¹

The couple worked out property division and child support arrangements for their two minor children, but those details are sealed from public view.

De La Hoya cited "irreconcilable differences" when he filed the initial divorce papers in 2023.

The former couple had been married since October 2001 after meeting in 2000 when De La Hoya was pursuing a music career.

Corretjer, a Puerto Rican singer and actress, caught De La Hoya's attention in a music video and he asked her to appear in one of his productions.

Their romance bloomed from there, leading to a secret wedding ceremony in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 2001.

Together they had three children: Oscar Jr., Nina, and Victoria.

Why the Golden Boy waited so long to make it official

The timing of De La Hoya's divorce filing raised eyebrows across the sports world.

If the couple separated in 2016, why wait seven years to file the paperwork?

The answer likely has everything to do with Holly Sonders, the former sports broadcaster who has been dating De La Hoya since 2021.

Sonders, 37, met the boxing promoter when she interviewed him at a boxing event in June 2021.

Their relationship quickly became serious, with Sonders making headlines in November 2021 when she debuted a massive tattoo of De La Hoya on her back.

The tattoo depicts De La Hoya's iconic moment from the 1992 Olympics when he won gold and looked up to the sky in honor of his late mother.²

"This tattoo signifies the day you became The Golden Boy," Sonders wrote on Instagram. "The moment you won the gold medal at the 1992 Olympics and looked up at your mother who had passed a few months prior."²

De La Hoya called the tattoo "the best gift I've ever received."²

The former Fox Sports personality has been by De La Hoya's side through various controversies and business ventures.

She stayed loyal when sexual assault allegations surfaced against him in 2022, standing by her man as he denied the claims.

With Sonders demonstrating such commitment – literally inking his image on her body – it makes sense that De La Hoya would want to clear the legal decks.

The settlement removes any barriers to potentially taking the next step in their relationship.

The cost of celebrity breakups keeps climbing

De La Hoya's divorce settlement, while keeping specific dollar amounts private, joins a growing list of expensive celebrity splits that have made headlines in recent years.

Hollywood divorces regularly reach eight and nine-figure settlements when no prenuptial agreements exist.

Kevin Costner just finished battling through his own costly divorce from Christine Baumgartner, ultimately paying $1.5 million under their prenup plus monthly child support of $63,209.³

Michael Jordan's 2006 divorce from Juanita Vanoy cost him $168 million – one of the most expensive athlete divorces in history.³

Tiger Woods reportedly paid $100 million to ex-wife Elin Nordegren after his cheating scandal.³

Even tech moguls haven't escaped massive payouts, with Jeff Bezos giving MacKenzie Scott $38 billion and Bill Gates reportedly paying Melinda French Gates an estimated $76 billion.³

The pattern is clear: when mega-wealthy celebrities don't have ironclad prenups, their ex-spouses often walk away with life-changing money.

De La Hoya learned this lesson the hard way with his first divorce from Cindy Silva in 1994, which cost him $80 million.

At least this time around, the settlement appears more controlled and amicable.

The fact that both sides kept the terms confidential suggests they worked together to avoid the kind of public spectacle that destroys reputations and family relationships.

For De La Hoya, finally putting this legal battle behind him means he can focus entirely on his promotional company Golden Boy Promotions and his relationship with Sonders.

At 51, the former Olympic champion has found happiness again with a woman who clearly adores him.

Now that he's officially single, fans will be watching to see if wedding bells are in the Golden Boy's future.
