The Black Lives Matter and Antifa riots during the summer of 2020 nearly brought Democrat-controlled cities to their knees.
The woke left-wing outrage mob left nothing but violence and destruction in their wake as they sought to literally burn American cities to the ground.
But despite it all, one Democrat staffer just exposed the unbelievably insane political calculation this ex-NYC Democrat Mayor made during the deadly 2020 BLM riots.
Democrats always put themselves about Americans’ well-being
The New York Post recently published an excerpt from the soon-to-be-released memoir written by Melissa DeRosa, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s top aide, that is making waves.
In her memoir, What’s Left Unsaid: My Life at the Center of Power, Politics & Crisis, DeRosa recounted the situation New York City faced as the woke left-wing outrage mob rioted across the city in the wake of George Floyd’s murder.
And stunningly, although not entirely surprisingly, DeRosa revealed that despite the fact that the New York Police Department (NYPD) was begging for reinforcements, New York Democrat Mayor Bill de Blasio deliberately chose not to deploy enough NYPD officers to deal with the thousands of violent and destructive Black Lives Matter and Antifa rioters terrorizing the city.
But why would he do such a thing?
Because he was apparently fearful that any violence that may ensue between the BLM and Antifa rioters and the NYPD would cause further embarrassment for his future political endeavors.
“We learned that a high-ranking member of the police union had reached out directly to the governor that morning with disturbing information: he believed that de Blasio, fearful of more police clashes with protesters going viral on video, was purposefully not deploying additional bodies,” DeRosa wrote, per The Post.
She added that it was clear that NYPD officers were “unwilling to take on the looters” because they knew “they were outnumbered.”
In their report on the memoir’s excerpt, the New York Post noted that during a conference call at the time, Cuomo and de Blasio learned that there were just “4,000 officers on duty” to deal with more than 5,000 woke extremist rioters.
DeRosa recalled that even the Democrat Governor was taken aback by the Democrat Mayor’s utter “malpractice.”
“The governor’s eyes widened in disbelief at what, to him, amounted to a staggering admission of malpractice,” DeRosa wrote. “Shea had just confirmed what the governor had been told and feared; the city had deliberately minimized deployment.”
Business as usual for Democrats
Furthermore, Cuomo’s former top aide went on to allege that de Blasio was influenced by the “far Left” elements of the Democrat Party who pushed to “defund the police.”
The Post noted that Mayor de Blasio had previously announced that “he would cut $1 billion from the NYPD operating budget and another $500 million from its capital budget” in order to appease his fellow woke extremist Democrats.
According to DeRosa, Governor Cuomo “believed strongly that the NYPD didn’t have enough police officers on the street” and noted that de Blasio only chose to up the number of officers to 8,000 and implement a curfew after he realized “the chaos was doing more damage to him than offending the far Left would.”
“Arrests and looting dropped dramatically,” DeRosa revealed. “That mattered far more than any bruised egos or negative press about the ‘feud’ between the governor and the mayor.”
Former de Blasio advisor Peter Ragone defended the former Democrat Mayor’s actions, claiming that it was actually the Cuomo team who prioritized politics over public safety, claiming the Democrat Governor was in “cahoots” with former head of the NYPD Sergeants Union, Ed Mullins, who supported former President Donald Trump.
“It was clear to everyone that the Cuomo folks were in cahoots with SBA (Sergeants Benevolent Association) President and Trump guy Ed Mullins,” Ragone claimed. “They shared an interest in putting politics over the interest of New Yorkers.”
Interestingly, Ragone didn’t provide any explanation for how it makes any sense for Cuomo and a Trump supporter to be in “cahoots” or what shared interest they could have possibly had to ensure more police officers are deployed to deal with thousands of left-wing domestic terrorists.
“The NYPD had all the resources it needed to handle difficult situations despite having no support from the state,” Ragone told the Post.
Ultimately, Melissa DeRosa is very likely putting these stories forward to help rehabilitate her former boss’ image after the scandals that ultimately derailed his political career soon after this ordeal.
But in doing so, she’s painted the clearest picture yet of the political calculations Democrats and other ruling class elites are making each day to prioritize self-interest over Americans’ well-being.
