Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) tanked Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) bid to become the ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee.
Pelosi whipped votes behind the scenes to help 74-year-old Gerry Connolly (D-VA) defeat Ocasio-Cortez.
But Nancy Pelosi was hit with a nasty surprise by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for double crossing her.
Nancy Pelosi has been one of the most powerful and influential Democrats in the Swamp for decades.
The 84-year-old is currently serving her 20th term in Congress.
Pelosi stepped down as Democrat leader in 2022 after holding the position for 20 years.
She previously agreed to only serve two terms as Speaker as a way to win the votes of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her “Squad.”
A young Representative forcing Nancy Pelosi to make concessions created tensions between the two that have only increased over time.
Donald Trump’s landslide victory over Kamala Harris only fueled the feud between Pelosi and Ocasio-Cortez.
Younger Democrats like Ocasio-Cortez believe it’s time for older officials like Nancy Pelosi to step aside and allow the next generation to lead.
That’s why Ocasio-Cortez tossed her name in the running to be the ranking Democrat on the powerful House Oversight Committee.
74-year-old Representative Gerry Connolly ran against the younger 35-year-old Ocasio-Cortez for the position.
But Ocasio-Cortez never had a chance after Nancy Pelosi worked the phones and whipped votes behind the scenes for Connolly.
Connolly crushed Ocasio-Cortez and delivered her the first embarrassing loss of her career.
But Ocasio-Cortez just showed Nancy Pelosi that she also knows how to play dirty politics.
Saikat Chakrabarti previously served as Chief of Staff for Ocasio-Cortez in Congress.
But he just tossed his hat into the ring to take on Nancy Pelosi in the 2026 Democrat Primary, and he cited her support for Connolly as the reason.
“I’ve got some news: I’ve decided to run against Nancy Pelosi to represent San Francisco in Congress,” Chakrabarti announced on social media. “I know some of you might be surprised that Speaker Emeritus Pelosi is running again, but she is — for her 21st term!”
He took a swipe at Pelosi’s age.
“I respect what Nancy Pelosi has accomplished in her career, but we are living in a totally different America than the one she knew when she entered politics 45 years ago,” Chakrabarti wrote. “America is stuck, and Americans want real solutions that are as big as the problems we face.”
Pelosi has already filed to run again for re-election in 2026.
But she will turn 85 next month and is currently recovering from hip replacement surgery.
A challenge from one of Ocasio-Cortez’s former lieutenants could force Pelosi to step aside and avoid a humiliating defeat and a nasty Primary.
