Nancy Pelosi tries to undermine Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s bid for a promotion 

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is challenging 10-term incumbent Gerry Connolly of Virginia for the position of Ranking Member on the House Oversight Committee.

Ocasio-Cortez announced her bid for the top Oversight post in a letter to colleagues. 

“The responsibility of leading Democrats on the House Oversight Committee during Donald Trump’s second term in the White House is a profound and consequential one. Now, more than ever, we must focus on the Committee’s strong history of both holding administrations accountable and taking on the economic precarity and inequality that is challenging the American way of life,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote in the letter. 

The Oversight Committee is the chief investigative panel in the House of Representatives.

Ocasio-Cortez winning the spot as the top Democrat on the panel puts her in position to become chairwoman should Democrats win control of the House of Representatives in the 2026 Midterm elections.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez becoming the lead Democrat on Oversight would make her the Democrat Party face of the investigations into Donald Trump.

That prospect terrifies the most powerful House Democrat on Capitol Hill, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

Pelosi is worried that as Chairwoman, Ocasio-Cortez will put an extreme and partisan face on the inevitable investigations into Donald Trump.

And Pelosi saw in the 2024 Election that the American people rejected the Democrat Party argument that Donald Trump was a corrupt threat to “our democracy” because all the investigations, impeachments, indictments, and lawfare against him were so nakedly political.

Pelosi doesn’t want open warfare with Ocasio-Cortez.

That would just inflame the Democrat Party’s socialist base and make Ocasio-Cortez winning the Ranking Member position on the Oversight Committee a litmus test-cause for the Left.

Instead, Pelosi is running a secret whip operation to ensure Connolly wins enough votes to become Ranking Member.

“Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi is actively working to tank Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-N.Y.) bid to become the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee.

“Pelosi is making calls on behalf of Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA.), who is running against AOC to be the Democrat Ranking Member on Oversight.

“Pelosi has made her support for Connolly publicly known. But her behind-the-scenes maneuvering shows the amount of political capital Pelosi’s willing to put into the contest, which will be decided next week,” Punchbowl News reported.

Ocasio-Cortez and Pelosi have been at odds since day one.

Pelosi had to pledge to only serve two terms as Speaker of the House in order to win enough votes from Ocasio-Cortez and her “Squad” allies to secure the Speaker’s Gavel.

Ocasio-Cortez told journalist Ryan Grim in an interview for his book, The Squad: AOC and the Hope of a Political Revolution, that she just doesn’t like Pelosi or the brand of insider-dealing Washington, D.C. Swamp politics she represents.

“I thought a lot of my misery was due to leadership more broadly having a thing against me. But … my life has completely transformed. It’s crazy. And it’s that that made me realize it was kind of just [Pelosi] the whole time,” Ocasio-Cortez told Grim at the time.

But Nancy Pelosi has a long memory.

Pelosi bided her time for revenge.

And this is the moment Pelosi chose to strike.
