Dan Bongino found himself in the crosshairs of MSNBC after announcing a new push to solve three high-profile unsolved cases from the Biden administration.
The FBI Deputy Director was labeled a conspiracy theorist during an on-air segment that has Trump supporters fuming.
And MSNBC’s host and reporter just revealed what they really think about Dan Bongino’s plans to investigate the DNC pipe bomb and other unsolved Biden-era cases.
MSNBC goes after FBI leadership
MSNBC host Ana Cabrera and reporter Ken Dilanian dedicated nearly three minutes on Tuesday to criticizing FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino for his decision to allocate additional resources to three major unsolved cases from the Biden years.
The cases in question are significant ones that have puzzled Americans for years: the pipe bombs planted near both the Republican and Democratic National Committee headquarters on January 6, 2021; the leak of the Supreme Court’s draft opinion in the landmark Dobbs case in May 2022; and the mysterious cocaine discovered in the White House in July 2023.
Rather than praising the effort to resolve these lingering investigations, Dilanian took aim at both Bongino and FBI Director Kash Patel, describing them as “men who have fomented conspiracy theories.”
“There’s a huge subtext here,” Dilanian claimed during the segment. “The FBI is being led by two men who have fomented conspiracy theories that they are now being called on to deliver by MAGA supporters.”
Personal attacks on Bongino
Dilanian didn’t stop at general criticism. He specifically targeted Bongino’s past commentary about the pipe bomb case.
“For months, Dan Bongino, before he was the deputy FBI director, was telling people that the pipe bomb case was an inside job, that the FBI was lying about it, that they actually knew who did it and they were telling the public they didn’t,” Dilanian said after showing a clip of Bongino.
The MSNBC reporter then suggested that Bongino was only pursuing these cases to appease Trump supporters.
“Since he’s gotten into power and taken over the job, he hasn’t said any of that, but he’s now being called upon by MAGA followers to deliver on this and other conspiracy theories,” Dilanian continued.
The unsolved cases in question
The cases Bongino has prioritized remain significant unsolved mysteries from the previous administration.
The leak of the Supreme Court’s draft opinion in the Dobbs case triggered nationwide protests, including demonstrations outside the homes of Supreme Court justices. It also coincided with a wave of violence targeting pro-life organizations, crisis pregnancy centers, and churches across the country.
The situation became so dangerous that a man armed with a handgun, knife, and burglary tools was arrested near Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s home on June 8, 2022. The suspect reportedly told police he wanted to kill the Justice over potential rulings on abortion and gun rights.
The White House cocaine incident also remains unresolved. The Secret Service confirmed finding cocaine in the White House shortly before July 4, 2023, just after Hunter Biden, President Biden’s son, had visited the White House. Despite an investigation, no one was ever charged in connection with the drugs found in one of the most secure buildings in the world.
The pipe bombs discovered near both party headquarters on January 6, 2021, also remain a mystery, with no suspects identified despite extensive surveillance footage of the area.
Politically motivated criticism?
Rather than acknowledging the legitimate public interest in resolving these cases, Dilanian framed the FBI’s renewed focus as politically motivated.
“This is their way of throwing them a bone, saying, here are three controversial cases that we think may have links to Democratic misconduct or Biden-era misconduct and we’re going to amp up our investigations of those,” Dilanian claimed.
The Daily Caller News Foundation reached out to both Patel and Bongino for comment, but did not receive an immediate response.
The segment highlights the ongoing tensions between media outlets and the Trump administration’s appointees as they work to implement their priorities in federal agencies.
