Mitt Romney was the founding father of the Never-Trump movement.
Romney made it clear he will do everything in his power to stop Trump from winning the White House.
And now Mitt Romney just made this huge announcement about running for President.
Romney’s chief of staff Liz Johnson shot down rumors that Romney would run for President on a the “No Labels” group’s unity ticket with retiring West Virginia Democrat Senator Joe Manchin.
In a video announcing his retirement, Manchin hinted that he was open to an independent bid for the Presidency, saying his goal was to rally the middle of the electorate in 2024.
“Senator Romney was not aware of this effort and his not considering running for president on any ticket,” Johnson told KSL-TV.
Within hours of Manchin announcing his retirement, someone filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission for a Draft Romney Manchin Committee.
I'm fully convinced the No Labels ticket is going to be Romney/Manchin. Both retiring from the Senate, but vaguely gesturing their work is not done. Both going on TV together. And a committee formed with the FEC just hours before Manchin's announcement to "Draft Romney Manchin" https://t.co/c6aZhzWl1o pic.twitter.com/mbTRCPgmRk

An advisor close to the group claimed it would conduct polling on a Romney-Manchin ticket and that it believed there was a path to victory on the back of voters who didn’t want either Donald Trump or Joe Biden to be President.
“Unlike all of the other candidates, this would be the only unity or bipartisan ticket. That alone sends a message about what is making so many people disgusted with what’s happening in Washington, where politicians elevate party over country,” the adviser told Desert News.
“Wouldn’t it be great to go to the polls and actually feel good about the choices that you have instead of the lesser of two evils,” the advisor added.
A statement from No Labels made it clear the group intended to field a ticket next year.
“Regarding our No Labels Unity presidential ticket, we are gathering input from our members across the country to understand the kind of leaders they would like to see in the White House.”
“As we have said from the beginning, we will make a decision by early 2024 about whether we will nominate a Unity presidential ticket and who will be on it,” the No Labels statement read.
Democrats are petrified that a No Labels ticket will help elect Donald Trump, as some voters who swung to Biden from Trump in 2020 but soured on Biden’s performance in office would no longer have a binary choice.
Polls of swing states show an appetite for a third party as Robert F. Kennedy Jr. pulls over 20 percent of the vote against Biden and Trump.
And just because Mitt Romney pulled himself out of the running, No Labels won’t give up on trying to find a RINO to pair with Manchin on the ticket.
