The Republican establishment is hanging on for dear life.
A big problem they were hoping to avoid landed on their plates.
And Mitch McConnell was in bad shape after one RINO sellout got the fight of his life.
RINO Senator John Cornyn faces a strong Primary challenge
The Republican establishment is still clinging to power in the U.S. Senate.
RINO U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) is a former member of RINO U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) leadership team.
He ran to replace McConnell last when the Kentucky lawmaker stepped down as Senate GOP leader.
Cornyn has been one of the worst RINOs in the Senate despite representing Texas.
Former President Joe Biden praised him for his leadership in passing and helping write the Safer Communities Act in 2022 after the Uvalde, Texas school shooting.
That became the biggest control bill passed since former President Bill Clinton’s assault weapons ban in 1994.
Cornyn’s gun control led the Justice Department to establish a red flag gun confiscation command center to work with Democrat judges to seize firearms without due process from law-abiding gun owners.
The Texas turncoat also supports mass amnesty for illegal aliens, a blank check for the failed war in Ukraine, and he voted for every budget-busting spending bill.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton officially launched a Primary challenge against Cornyn on Fox News host Laura Ingraham’s show.
Paxton is a close ally of President Donald Trump and was rumored to be a potential candidate to be his Attorney General last year.
He argued that Texas needed another conservative like U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX).
“It’s definitely time for a change in Texas,” Paxton said. “We have another great U.S. senator in Ted Cruz. And it’s time we have another great senator that will actually stand up and fight for republican values, fight for the values of the people of Texas, and also support Donald Trump.”
A brutal Primary battle is coming to Texas
The race between Paxton and Cornyn next year could become the most expensive Senate Primary in history.
Cornyn is going to have the establishment pouring big money into his campaign.
Paxton told Punch Bowl News last month that he thought he could win the race if he raised $20 million.
This is the most serious Primary challenge that Cornyn has had since he was first elected in 2002.
Paxton has won three statewide races as Attorney General and earned a reputation as a conservative fighter.
He filed one of the lawsuits over the 2020 Election that ended up before the Supreme Court.
Limited polling of the race shows that Paxton has a chance to knock off Cornyn.
A Texas Public Opinion Research poll from March found that Paxton was leading Cornyn 37% to 27% among registered Republicans.
Paxton noted that his opponent has gotten nothing done for conservatives during his long political career.
“He’s had 24 years of this which I think is plenty given his lack of production,” Paxton said. “It’s hard to think of the things that he’s done good for Texas or the country.”
Voters in Texas could send one of Mitch McConnell’s allies packing next year.
