Michelle Obama built her entire brand on the phrase "when they go low, we go high."
Now she's on a podcast calling your country broken – and her co-guest is a comedian who admitted he fabricated racist hate crimes for profit.
The word she used on Wednesday is five letters, and it tells you everything about what the woman who lived in the White House for eight years actually thinks of the people who live here.
The Podcast, the Fabulist, and the Five-Letter Word
Obama appeared Wednesday on IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson alongside Hasan Minhaj.
Minhaj built his entire career on stories of racism and Islamophobia he later admitted he invented.
The New Yorker exposed him in 2023 – the anthrax story was fabricated, the FBI surveillance story was fabricated.
His own explanation for his act: "the emotional truth is first, the factual truth is secondary."
Bill Maher called it out cold: "The stories Mr. Minhaj tells in his act to elicit sympathy for himself as a Muslim and a person of color are completely made up."
That is the man Michelle Obama chose as her sounding board on the state of America.
And what did she conclude?
She told him the country is in a "janky version" of itself.
"We haven't been this janky for a while," she said.
Then she told him what gives her hope in this janky America: organized resistance to Trump's deportation operations in Minnesota.
She called it "powerful stuff."
What She Left Out About Minnesota
Trump deployed federal agents to Minnesota to enforce immigration law against criminal illegal aliens.
The operations met organized obstruction.
Obama is celebrating the obstruction.
In her framing, the janky part of America is the part where the federal government enforces the law.
The agents running those operations are not janky.
The 80 million Americans who voted for exactly this policy are not janky.
The criminal aliens being removed are not being protected by virtue – they are being protected by people with a political agenda who convinced themselves it is courage.
Obama called it a "powerful reminder of what a community of people can do and are willing to do to protect one another."
Protection.
Not lawlessness – protection.
The Woman Who Got Everything This Country Offers
Michelle Obama graduated from Princeton.
She earned a law degree from Harvard.
She spent eight years in the White House.
She signed a book deal worth millions.
She signed a Netflix production deal through Higher Ground Productions.
And now she is calling the country that handed her all of it janky – from a podcast studio – sitting next to a man who lied about his own daughter being rushed to the hospital after an anthrax exposure that never happened.
That is a woman who got everything this country offers, telling you the problem is your values.
She is not worried about America.
She is furious that the America she thought she had reshaped is being reshaped by someone else – and calling it broken is the only move she has left.
The person who told you "when they go low, we go high" is now sitting with a proven fabulist, calling your country defective, and cheering on people blocking federal law enforcement from doing its job.
That is not going high.
That is not even going low.
That is just finally being honest.
