Wild rumors have been swirling about Michelle Obama’s personal life.
She was finally forced to break her silence.
And Michelle Obama addressed one sick rumor that left Democrats in stunned silence.
Michelle Obama addresses divorce rumors
Former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama have been married for more than 30 years.
Rumors began to spread that something was going on between them when she was missing from high-profile public events with her husband.
The couple went months without being seen in public together.
Michelle Obama was the only former First Lady to skip President Jimmy Carter’s Washington, D.C., funeral in December, which left her husband flying solo.
Her office claimed that she had a prior engagement.
Barack Obama attended President Donald Trump’s inauguration in January without her.
YouTuber Melanie King claimed that she received a direct message through social media from a friend of Jennifer Aniston who said the actress was secretly dating Barack Obama.
This added fuel to the fire that the Obamas’ marriage was on the rocks.
Michelle Obama was forced to respond to the rumors about her marriage during an appearance on actress Sophia Bush’s podcast.
“But the interesting thing is that when I say no, for the most part, people are like, ‘I get it, and I’m okay,’ right?” Obama said. “And that’s the thing that we as women, I think we struggle with, like disappointing people.”
She framed skipping the high-profile events as a personal decision.
“I mean so much so that this year people were, they couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself, that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing, you know? This couldn’t be a grown woman just making a set of decisions herself, right? But that’s what society does to us.”
Michelle Obama’s story doesn’t add up
Obama accused people of thinking the worst about skipping the events.
“If it doesn’t fit into the sort of stereotype of what people think we should do, then it gets labeled as something negative and horrible,” Obama said.
The former First Lady said that she was free to pursue her own interests now that she was out of the White House.
“Now is the time for me to start asking myself these hard questions of, ‘Who do I truly want to be every day?’ And that changes,” Obama explained. “So, who do I want to have a lunch with? How long do I want to stay in a place? Do I want to travel? If a girlfriend calls and says, ‘Let’s go here,’ I can say, ‘Yes, I can.’ And I’m trying to do that more and more.”
Skipping Trump’s inauguration made sense as she is an outspoken opponent of the President.
Not showing up at Carter’s state funeral because of a prior engagement raises eyebrows.
Meghan McCain and former Puck News reporter Tara Palmeri both claimed on a January podcast that they’ve heard for a long time that the Obamas are leading separate lives and that divorce rumors were coming from “reputable people” in Washington, D.C.
Michelle Obama won’t silence the speculation about her marriage with her denial.
