And now Letitia James is taking Trump to the Supreme Court for this sick reason.
Election integrity is an issue near and dear to President Trump’s heart.
How states run elections became a major topic of controversy following what happened in 2020.
Proposals to secure elections, like requiring voter ID, win the support of nearly 80 percent of the American public.
Another popular and commonsense proposal is requiring proof of citizenship to vote.
Every vote cast by an illegal alien cancels out the lawful vote of an American citizen.
Democrats in the Senate filibustered the SAVE Act, which would have mandated proof of citizenship as a requirement to vote.
President Trump then signed an executive order beefing up election integrity, requiring proof of citizenship to vote and linking federal funding to requiring voter ID.
“Free, fair, and honest elections unmarred by fraud, errors, or suspicion are fundamental to maintaining our constitutional Republic. The right of American citizens to have their votes properly counted and tabulated, without illegal dilution, is vital to determining the rightful winner of an election,” Trump stated.
Trump explained that the way elections in America work is that states administer elections in “compliance with Federal laws.”
“Under the Constitution, State governments must safeguard American elections in compliance with Federal laws that protect Americans’ voting rights and guard against dilution by illegal voting, discrimination, fraud, and other forms of malfeasance and error,” Trump added.
Ensuring faith and confidence in elections was a critical goal of the government.
“Elections must be honest and worthy of the public’s trust. That requires voting methods that produce a voter-verifiable paper record, allowing voters to efficiently check their votes to protect against fraud or mistake. Election integrity standards must be modified accordingly,” Trump stated.
Letitia James immediately announced on X that she planned to sue Trump to stop election integrity measures.
“Donald Trump’s Executive Order to seize control of our elections, intimidate voters, and attack Americans’ right to vote is unconstitutional and undemocratic. I’m suing to stop the President’s authoritarian power grab and protect people’s right to vote and our democracy,” James wrote on X.
18 other Democrat state Attorneys General joined the lawsuit.
“The Election EO violates the Constitution. It interferes with States’ inherent sovereignty and their constitutional power to regulate the time, place, and manner of federal elections,” the lawsuit read.
“It also usurps Congress’s powers to legislate (under the Elections Clause) and to appropriate (under the Spending Clause) because Congress has not chosen to implement the changes the President seeks to impose by decree,” the lawsuit added. “The critical funds at issue have in large measure already been appropriated by Congress.”
This fight could very well go all the way to the Supreme Court.
And the question many Americans are asking is why Democrats are choosing blocking voter ID and proof of citizenship requirements for elections.
