Letitia James is facing the one criminal charge that will scare the hell out of herĀ

New York Attorney General Letitia James got some bad news.

The Trump administration just referred James for criminal prosecution.

And Letitia James is facing the one criminal charge that will scare the hell out of her.

Letitia James sued Donald Trump for civil fraud, claiming Trump inflated the value of his assets to secure more favorable loan terms from the bank.

There was no evidence of criminal activity, and no bank lost money on the transaction with Trump.

That lawsuit is under appeal after a Democrat judge awarded James a $464 million judgment in what critics slammed as a partisan witch hunt.

But now it’s James under scrutiny for allegations of mortgage fraud.

Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte referred James to the Justice Department for criminal prosecution for claiming a home in Virginia as her primary residence when New York law requires her primary residence to be in the state as an elected official.

ā€œMs. James was the sitting Attorney General of New York and is required by law to have her primary residence in the state of New York — even though her mortgage applications list her intent to have the Norfolk, VA, property as her primary home,ā€ the letter reads.

Pulte alleged James misrepresented her residence to secure more favorable loan terms.

ā€œIt appears Ms. James’ property and mortgage-related misrepresentations may have continued to her recent 2023 Norfolk, VA property purchase in order to secure a lower interest rate and more favorable loan terms,ā€ the letter continued.

The letter also noted that in 1983 and 2000, James listed her father as her husband on documents when she purchased property.

Even though these occurred outside the statute of limitations, Pulte claimed it showed an intent to deceive on mortgage applications.

ā€œWhile this was a long time ago, it raises serious concerns about the validity of Ms. James’ representations on mortgage applications,ā€ Pulte added.

James’ own words are coming back to haunt her.

When she sued Donald Trump, James claimed it was an effort to uphold the rule of law and show that in America, the powerful were held to account.

ā€œNo matter how big, rich, or powerful you think you are, no one is above the law,ā€ James stated.

George Washington Law School Professor Jonathan Turley said the standard James held Trump to in her lawsuit means she would have to face criminal charges here, and her only defense would be that the government faked the documents.

ā€œThis is really for James, the very case that she most famously brought. She insisted that these technicalities matter and that the powerful should not be given a free pass. Well, that bill has come due in this case… I’m honestly just not sure how you defend against this unless you say that these are fraudulent documents,” Turley told host Laura Ingraham.
