Sarah Beckstrom's family buried their 20-year-old daughter two weeks ago after an Afghan terrorist shot her in the head on a Washington, DC street.
Bennie Thompson doesn't think that's worth getting upset about.
And Kristi Noem just made the Mississippi Democrat regret opening his mouth.
Thompson calls terrorist murder "unfortunate accident"
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem testified before the House Homeland Security Committee Thursday alongside National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent.
The hearing focused on worldwide threats to America.
Thompson, the ranking Democrat on the committee, started questioning Noem about the Thanksgiving Eve terrorist attack that killed Beckstrom and left her fellow West Virginia National Guard member Andrew Wolfe fighting for his life.
"Madam Secretary, you and the gentleman from NCTC referenced the unfortunate accident that occurred with the National Guardsmen being killed," Thompson said.
Noem's head snapped up.
"You think that was an unfortunate accident?" she fired back. "It was a terrorist attack."
Thompson tried to wave her off and keep talking but Noem wasn't having it.
"He shot our National Guardsman in the head," she stated flatly.
Thompson doubled down on his disgusting characterization by calling it "an unfortunate situation" before launching into questions designed to blame Trump for the attack.
Republican Representative Andy Ogles of Tennessee couldn't stay silent any longer.
"Point of order, Mr. Chairman," Ogles interrupted. "That was a murder that took place in D.C. It was not an unfortunate incident. And those comments are effing disrespectful. I expect better from the…"
The Chairman ruled Ogles' point of order invalid but the damage to Thompson was already done.
Democrats desperate to protect Biden's Afghanistan disaster
Thompson wasn't just being callous about a dead soldier.
He had a political mission.
The Mississippi Democrat spent his time trying to get Noem to admit the Trump administration approved the terrorist's asylum application.
Noem refused to play his game.
"Mr. Thompson, this individual that came into the country, under the evacuation of Afghanistan under Operation Allies Welcome, was thoroughly vetted by the Biden administration at that point in time, allowed into our country, and that was never followed up," Noem explained.
Biden's botched Afghanistan withdrawal in 2021 brought approximately 77,000 Afghans into America under Operation Allies Welcome with minimal vetting.
Rahmanullah Lakanwal was one of them.
The 29-year-old Afghan national entered the United States in September 2021 as Biden's military fled Afghanistan in disgrace.
He applied for asylum in 2024.
The Trump administration granted that application in April 2025 based entirely on the vetting Biden's team did four years earlier.
Biden's people cleared Lakanwal despite the fact he'd worked alongside CIA forces in Afghanistan, had access to weapons training, and showed signs of radicalization.
Joe Kent backed up Noem's explanation.
"The individual was vetted to serve as a soldier in Afghanistan, and that vetting standard was used by the Biden administration as a ruse to bring him here," Kent testified. "Had we followed the standard operating procedures for Special Immigrant Visas, that individual and none of the Allies Welcome people would have come to America. That's on Joe Biden."
Thompson wouldn't accept the answer.
"Just answer the question," he stammered at Kent.
"That was the answer," Kent shot back.
Thompson threatened Noem with perjury for telling the truth
Thompson's questioning got even more unhinged.
After Noem refused to blame Trump for Biden's vetting failures, Thompson threatened her with criminal charges.
"Reclaiming my time. I don't want to charge — file perjury charges against you, but I'm of the opinion that the Trump administration, DHS, your DHS, approved the asylum application," Thompson said.
Noem stood her ground.
"The asylum application moved forward under all of the information and vetting processes that were put in place under the Biden administration, which is when vetting happened, and that's what President Trump has changed," she replied.
Thompson's threat backfired spectacularly.
Everyone watching understood what he was really doing — trying to intimidate a cabinet secretary into lying under oath to protect Joe Biden's legacy.
The same Bennie Thompson who led the January 6 committee's partisan witch hunt against Trump was now threatening perjury charges against someone telling the truth about Biden's failures.
The same Bennie Thompson who tried to strip Trump's Secret Service protection with his DISGRACED Act was now playing defense for the administration that let a terrorist walk American streets.
The same Bennie Thompson who needed a presidential pardon from Biden in January 2025 was lecturing others about accountability.
The facts Democrats don't want Americans to know
Sarah Beckstrom enlisted in the West Virginia National Guard on June 26, 2023.
She volunteered to serve in Washington, D.C. as part of Trump's deployment to make the capital safe again.
On Thanksgiving Eve, Lakanwal ambushed her and Wolfe near the Farragut West metro station, two blocks from the White House.
He fired 10 to 15 shots, hitting both soldiers in the head.
Beckstrom died from her wounds the next day while her family tried to celebrate Thanksgiving.
Wolfe remains in critical condition but is showing signs of recovery.
Lakanwal yelled "Allahu akbar" during the attack, according to court documents.
Fellow National Guard members quickly subdued him, stabbing him with a pocket knife and shooting him four times.
President Trump deployed an additional 500 National Guard troops to D.C. in response.
Democrats like Thompson and Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia responded by arguing the soldiers wouldn't have been shot if Trump hadn't deployed them in the first place.
That's the Democrat Party in 2025 — blaming Trump for a terrorist attack carried out by someone Biden's team brought to America and failed to properly vet.
Bennie Thompson called a terrorist murder an "unfortunate accident" because admitting the truth would mean admitting Biden screwed up.
Kristi Noem wasn't about to let him get away with that disrespect.
And neither should the American people.
