Glucksmann has previously attacked Donald Trump, but this was the first time he directed his words at the United States.
He said that America “no longer represents the values of freedom” and demanded the Statue of Liberty be returned to France.
“Give us back the Statue of Liberty,” he said.
“We’re going to say to the Americans who have chosen to side with the tyrants, to the Americans who fired researchers for demanding scientific freedom: ‘Give us back the Statue of Liberty,’” he continued. “We gave it to you as a gift, but apparently you despise it, so it will be just fine here at home.”

According to the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Inc. website, Frenchman Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi designed the Statue of Liberty.
The statue was a gift from France to commemorate the centennial of the U.S. Declaration of Independence.
It arrived in New York on June 17, 1886.
On October 28, 1886, former President Grover Cleveland “oversaw the dedication of the Statue of Liberty,” where it has remained ever since.
Since the Statue of Liberty weighs a staggering 450,000 pounds and stands at 305-feet tall, sending it back to France would take a lot of work.
But the Statue of Liberty is safe for now.
During a White House press briefing, Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy brought up Glucksmann’s comments.
Doocy asked Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt if Trump planned on returning the Statue of Liberty to France.
“There is now a member of the European parliament from France, who does not think the U.S. represents the values of the Statue of Liberty anymore, they want the Statue of Liberty back,” Doocy began, before asking “is President Trump going to send the Statue of Liberty back?”
Leavitt gave Glucksmann a lesson in history.
“Absolutely not,” Leavitt fired back.
“And, my advice to that unnamed, low-level French politician would be to remind them that it’s only because of the United States of America that the French are not speaking German right now,” she continued. “So, they should be very grateful to our great country.”
Leavitt was alluding to America’s help when Hitler’s Germany marched into France during WWII.
