The Russia collusion hoax architects thought they’d gotten away with it.
One Obama intel boss kept lying to cover his tracks.
And Jim Jordan hit John Brennan with the news that could finally land Obama’s CIA director behind bars.
Jordan sends Brennan’s case to Attorney General Bondi
House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) sent a criminal referral to Attorney General Pam Bondi on Tuesday targeting one of the masterminds behind the Russia collusion hoax.¹
The target is former CIA Director John Brennan, who served under President Barack Obama and helped create the Intelligence Community Assessment that launched years of investigations into Donald Trump based on what we now know was a pack of lies.²
Jordan’s referral to the DOJ alleges that Brennan "knowingly made false statements" to Congress during his May 2023 testimony before the House Judiciary Committee about his agency’s role in the discredited Steele dossier.³
"Making false statements before Congress is a crime that undermines the integrity of the Committee’s constitutional duty to conduct oversight," Jordan wrote in his letter to Bondi.⁴
The dossier was paid for by Hillary Clinton’s campaign through her law firm, filled with salacious and unproven allegations about Trump, and ultimately used by the FBI to obtain warrants to spy on Trump campaign official Carter Page.⁵
Brennan caught red-handed in pattern of lies
The evidence against Brennan comes from a 2020 House Intelligence Committee report that was declassified earlier this year by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.⁶
The report exposes how Brennan personally overrode objections from senior CIA officials who warned that including the dossier would undermine the credibility of the entire Intelligence Community Assessment.⁷
When CIA analysts told Brennan the dossier failed to meet basic intelligence standards, he dismissed their concerns by asking, "Yes, but doesn’t it ring true?"⁸
That’s not how intelligence analysis is supposed to work — you don’t include unverified political opposition research because it "rings true" to your preferred narrative.
During his May 2023 testimony, Brennan told then-Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) that he was not involved in analyzing the dossier and claimed "the CIA was not involved at all with the dossier."⁹
That statement cannot be reconciled with the facts.¹⁰
The declassified House Intelligence Committee report shows the CIA drafted the annex containing the dossier summary, and Brennan made the ultimate decision with then-FBI Director James Comey to include it in the assessment.¹¹
Brennan also told Jordan that "the CIA was very much opposed to having any reference or inclusion of the Steele dossier in the Intelligence Community Assessment."¹²
But the declassified documents show Brennan documented his eagerness to include the dossier in writing, directly contradicting his congressional testimony.¹³
The pattern goes back to 2017
Jordan’s referral also includes false statements Brennan made to Congress back in 2017 during an exchange with then-Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC).¹⁴
Brennan testified that the dossier "was not in any way used as a basis for the Intelligence Community assessment."¹⁵
Those statements fall outside the five-year statute of limitations for lying to Congress.¹⁶
But Jordan included them in his referral as evidence of "a pattern of Brennan’s willingness to lie to Congress about the Steele dossier."¹⁷
The Intelligence Community Assessment created by Brennan and other Obama intelligence chiefs concluded that Russia "developed a clear preference" for Trump and "aspired to help" him win the 2016 election.¹⁸
That conclusion poisoned Trump’s entire first term and gave Democrats and their media allies ammunition to push the Russia collusion narrative for years.¹⁹
The assessment was based in part on the Steele dossier despite senior CIA analysts warning it was "extremely sketchy" and failed basic intelligence tradecraft standards.²⁰
Brennan still lying even after evidence declassified
Even after the House Intelligence Committee report was declassified earlier this year, Brennan continues to peddle falsehoods about his role in creating the Intelligence Community Assessment.²¹
In a late July New York Times op-ed, Brennan and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper claimed "the dossier was not used as a source or taken into account for any of its analysis or conclusions."²²
That statement is demonstrably false based on the declassified documents.²³
The dossier appears in both the main body of the Intelligence Community Assessment and in a two-page annex that Brennan personally fought to include over the objections of his own CIA analysts.²⁴
"In sum, Brennan’s testimony before the Committee on May 11, 2023, was a brazen attempt to knowingly and willfully testify falsely and fictitiously to material facts," Jordan wrote.²⁵
The House Judiciary Committee is now asking the Justice Department to examine whether Brennan’s testimony warrants criminal charges under federal law prohibiting false statements to Congress.²⁶
Trump administration positioned to pursue justice
The timing of Jordan’s referral is significant because Attorney General Pam Bondi has already established a "Weaponization Working Group" at the Justice Department to review how the agency targeted Trump and his allies.²⁷
Bondi took office in February 2025 and immediately ordered reviews of the federal prosecutions against Trump, including both cases brought by special counsel Jack Smith.²⁸
President Trump has publicly called on Bondi to pursue cases against those who investigated him during his first term, including former FBI Director James Comey.²⁹
The Justice Department recently won an indictment against Comey for obstruction of justice and making false statements to Congress.³⁰
Brennan now faces similar scrutiny for his role in creating and spreading the Russia collusion narrative that hamstrung Trump’s first presidency.
Jordan told reporters earlier this month that he expected criminal charges against Brennan based on the evidence of false statements to Congress.³¹
"It looks to me like he may have misled Congress," Jordan said. "We are looking at that."³²
The FBI was already investigating Brennan after CIA Director John Ratcliffe released a review of the agency’s behavior surrounding the 2016 election, according to news reports from July.³³
At that time, Brennan appeared on MSNBC where he works as a contributor and claimed he was "clueless about what it is exactly that they may be investigating me for."³⁴
That defense will be hard to maintain now that Jordan has laid out a detailed criminal referral showing a pattern of false statements to Congress about Brennan’s central role in legitimizing the Steele dossier.
The Obama-era intelligence chiefs who tried to destroy Trump’s presidency with manufactured Russian collusion claims are finally facing consequences for weaponizing America’s intelligence agencies against a presidential candidate and sitting president.
