A legendary Washington Post journalist and author Sally Quinn doesn’t make the news herself too often.
But when she does, she really does.
And Sally Quinn just served Jill Biden up a vicious broiling few would have expected.
Washington insider reveals what elite Democrats really thought about Biden
Sally Quinn has been at the center of Washington’s power circles for decades as a veteran journalist and social influencer who hosted dinner parties with the highest levels of government officials.
She was married to legendary Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee and has witnessed firsthand how the political establishment operates behind closed doors.
Quinn appeared on the Tara Palmeri Show where she made stunning accusations about former First Lady Jill Biden and what Washington elites really thought about Joe Biden’s mental decline.
“All the time. Really? All the time,” Quinn said when asked how often Biden’s mental deterioration came up at elite dinner parties. “Everybody thought he shouldn’t run. People just were distraught that he was running and terrible for the party.”
The veteran journalist revealed that despite the public support from Democrats, privately they were horrified by Biden’s condition and his decision to seek re-election.
“And as soon as the debate was over, then he didn’t get out immediately. It was shocking. But people cared about the country. People like Joe Biden, there wasn’t anything against Joe Biden. It was against the situation,” Quinn explained.
She said Washington insiders “felt sorry for him” but were appalled “that he was put in a position where he was allowed to run by his staff and by his wife.”
Quinn accuses Jill Biden of “elder abuse”
Quinn didn’t mince words when she placed the blame squarely on Jill Biden’s shoulders for allowing her husband to continue his Presidential campaign despite his obvious cognitive decline.
“Well, honestly, I blame Jill Biden for this. Jill Biden is his wife. And if Jill Biden had stood up and had gone to him and said, Joe, you can’t do it. And if you do, you’re on your own. I’m out. He wouldn’t have run because he couldn’t have done it without her support,” Quinn stated.
The Washington Post journalist said Jill Biden “clearly was in favor of him running” and called it “a terrible disservice to the country.”
Quinn recalled watching the aftermath of Biden’s disastrous debate performance against Donald Trump where his mental faculties were on full display for tens of millions of Americans.
“Well, I felt sorry for Joe Biden because I didn’t think she was protecting him. She wasn’t protecting him from himself. And after that hideous debate, right after the debate, they’re in the spin room and she got his hand up and they’re, victory, victory, we won, we won, it was great, great,” Quinn said.
She noted that “the next day he’s up in North Carolina and making a victory speech” despite the obvious disaster of his debate performance.
“I thought, what were they watching? It was, I thought it was just elder abuse, really, what they were going through,” Quinn declared.
Quinn draws on personal experience with dementia
Quinn’s accusations carry extra weight because she has personal experience dealing with dementia after caring for her husband Ben Bradlee during his final years.
“Well, it looks like the beginning of dementia to me. My husband had dementia. He was diagnosed eight years before he died. And it didn’t really get severe until the last two years of his life,” Quinn explained.
She described the warning signs she recognized in Biden that mirrored what she witnessed with her own husband.
“But it was clear that, you know, he would, I would see him, he’d be making a speech and he’d forget where he was and and he would stumble. And I finally just said, no, no more speeches. I told everybody in his office, no more speeches, no more public appearances. That’s not happening. I just wanted to protect him from himself, to protect his dignity,” Quinn recalled.
The contrast between how Quinn protected her husband’s dignity and how Jill Biden handled Joe Biden’s situation couldn’t be more stark.
Quinn concluded that Biden’s decision to stay in the race was driven by ego rather than the country’s best interests.
“And people felt sorry for him, but it was still it was his egotistical decision to stay in office and look what happened,” she said.
The devastating critique from someone so deeply embedded in Washington’s establishment circles reveals the true extent of concern among Democrats about Biden’s fitness for office.
Quinn’s accusations that Jill Biden enabled what amounted to “elder abuse” will likely follow the former First Lady for years to come.
