War Secretary Pete Hegseth is restoring warrior standards to America's military.
Democrats and their media allies mocked the effort as performance theater.
And now JD Vance has just proved Trump's Cabinet walks the walk yet again.
Vice President JD Vance joined Navy SEALs for a punishing 90-minute training session Monday at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado in California that left the Marine veteran feeling like he "got hit by a freight train."
The workout featured running on the beach, rope-climbing, carrying logs, and rowing in the ocean alongside America's most elite warriors.
"Just finished PT with the Navy SEALs for 90 minutes," Vance posted on X. "They took it easy on me and I still feel like I got hit by a freight train. So grateful to all of our warriors who keep us safe and keep the highest standards anywhere in the world!"
Photos released by the Vice President's office captured Vance hauling logs with SEALS, scaling rope obstacles, and grinding through exercises that would break most 40-year-olds.
The veep was the only person pictured with a beard during the training exercises, and faces of many SEALs were blurred out for security purposes.
Trump Administration Leads from the Front
Vance's beach workout isn't some one-off photo opportunity.
This is exactly what War Secretary Pete Hegseth demanded when he told senior military leaders in September he was sick of seeing "fat generals and admirals" running the Pentagon.
Hegseth announced sweeping reforms requiring every service member to take two physical fitness tests per year and meet strict height and weight requirements.¹
Combat personnel must now meet "the highest male standard only" of their service's physical fitness test.²
Hegseth made it crystal clear that standards apply to everyone from the Joint Chiefs down to the youngest private, declaring, "Today, at my direction, every warrior across our joint force is required to do PT every duty day."³
The War Secretary regularly posts footage of himself working out with troops at bases around the globe.
Now Vance is following that lead by training with the SEALs rather than sitting behind a desk in Washington, D.C.
Media Elites Don't Get It
The left-wing media immediately attacked Vance for "cosplay" and accused him of prioritizing "photo ops" over governing.
Critics sneered that the Vice President should be focused on "fixing the mess at home" instead of exercising with the military.
One Democrat activist called it "a desperate photo op for a Vice President who cares more about his military 'aesthetic' than actually governing."
These attacks expose how completely disconnected coastal elites are from the America First movement's values.
Vance served four years in the Marines from 2003 to 2007 and deployed to Iraq in 2005 with the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing.⁴
The veep has repeatedly said his time in the Corps shaped his foreign policy views and taught him what it means to serve.
But to the laptop class in Washington, D.C. and New York, physical fitness and military readiness are just performance art.
The Hegseth Standard Drives Democrats Crazy
The Trump Administration's push for warfighter standards has the Left in full meltdown mode.
Hegseth banned beards for most service members because facial hair prevents proper seal with chemical, biological, and nuclear protection equipment.⁵
He eliminated mandatory training on topics like the Privacy Act and relaxed requirements for cybersecurity training so troops can focus on actual combat readiness.⁶
The War Secretary also reformed Military Equal Opportunity complaint procedures to dismiss frivolous accusations within 30 days and hold people accountable for knowingly filing false complaints.⁷
Every single one of these reforms makes the military more lethal and less bogged down in bureaucratic nonsense.
And Democrats hate it because they spent years turning the armed forces into a social engineering laboratory for woke ideology.
Vance training with SEALs sends an unmistakable message: This administration doesn't just talk about high standards, they live them.
When Vance told reporters back in October that "I am now the vice president, so I get to do what I want to do" about keeping his beard, he was making a point about leadership prerogatives.⁸
But the veep also praised Hegseth for implementing "very high standards" across the military.
The training session demonstrates Vance understands those standards apply to leadership too, not just the troops.
This is what separates the Trump Administration from the Biden years.
Biden's team talked about supporting the military while letting readiness collapse and turning the Pentagon into a DEI workshop.
Trump's Cabinet actually respects warriors enough to train alongside them and hold themselves to the same fitness expectations they demand from service members.
The media can mock it all they want.
But veterans and active duty troops see a Vice President who's willing to get smoked by SEALs on a California beach and they know that matters.
That's leadership.
