How Sanctuary Cities resisting Trump’s deportation put residents at risk

Feb 14, 2025

Democrat-led states and cities are going out of their way to shield illegal aliens from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

Public Rights Project Founder and President Jill Habig claims these policies “make cities safer.”

But this is how Sanctuary Cities resisting Donald Trump’s deportation put residents at risk.

Biden’s open borders cost Americans dearly

More than 11 million illegal aliens are estimated to be living in the United States thanks to Joe Biden’s open borders policies.

Donald Trump campaigned on a promise to start the largest mass deportation program in American history on Day One, should voters send him back to the White House.

The American people responded by giving Donald Trump a mandate landslide victory over Kamala Harris on November 5.

Trump won the popular vote, carried every swing state, and took in more votes than any Republican Presidential candidate in history.

He immediately signed a flurry of executive orders dealing with border security and illegal immigration.

Trump kept his word and started deporting illegal aliens on Day One

An average of 826 illegal aliens have been arrested each day since Trump took office, and ICE agents are on pace to make 25,000 arrests in the first 30 days of the new administration.

For comparison, the monthly figure never reached 20,000 during Joe Biden’s entire Presidency.

But Democrat Governors and Mayors across the country are ramping up their “sanctuary” efforts to protect illegal aliens from deportation.

Democrats in California are allocating up to $50 million in funding to “defend the state’s progressive policies against challenges by the Trump administration.”

“The legislation sets aside $25 million for the state Department of Justice to fight legal battles against the federal government, and another $25 million for legal groups to defend immigrants facing possible deportation,” the AP reported.

But California is only one sanctuary state.

There are a total of 13 sanctuary states.

Sanctuary cities also exist outside of those 13 states, including in places like Atlanta, Georgia, and Louisville, Kentucky.

Democrats refuse to accept it, but sanctuary cities are putting the very people these officials are elected to represent in danger.

The reality is that many of the illegal aliens who cross the border are also violent criminals, gang members, or terrorists.

Illegal immigration is a threat to the American people

Dozens of Americans have already been killed or harmed by illegal aliens Joe Biden released into the United States.

According to a report from last July, there were more than 662,566 illegal aliens with criminal histories in the country.

13,099 were convicted of homicide, 62,231 were convicted for assault, 15,811 have sexual assault convictions, and 14,301 convicted of burglary.

But Democrats in sanctuary states and cities don’t care if the illegal aliens they are protecting are murderers, thieves, or rapists.

Sanctuary cities and states even refuse to turn over illegal aliens who have been charged with crimes to federal immigration authorities.

“I have child molesters that I can’t arrest because they’re not a priority,” one DHS source told reporters.

As the Center for Immigration Studies reported, “‘sanctuary’ cities only protect criminals, by definition — because that’s the kind of people who end up in the . . . back of a BPD squad car.”

The most famous case of an illegal alien murdering an American citizen is Laken Riley.

Riley was murdered by an illegal alien while jogging on campus at the University of Georgia.

The illegal alien who murdered Riley had been arrested twice before, but he was released due to Democrat sanctuary laws.

But Laken Riley is only one of many tragic victims of Biden’s open borders agenda.

“Two migrants were arrested for a knifepoint rape in Coney Island — including one who was released from jail less than two months ago after sexually assaulting a different woman at a city-funded shelter,” the New York Post reported last August.

Donald Trump is refusing to put up with Democrats in sanctuary places protecting illegal alien criminals.

And on Thursday, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced a lawsuit against New York Governor Kathy Hochul, state Attorney General Letitia James, and motor vehicles commissioner Mark Schroeder.

“This is a new DOJ,” Bondi declared. “We are taking steps to protect American citizens,” she continued. “As you know, we sued Illinois, and New York didn’t listen – you’re next.”

Bondi was joined by the mother of a 20-year-old girl who was murdered by an MS-13 gang member who should not have been inside the United States.

“No other parents should suffer by having their child murdered by somebody that shouldn’t be here,” Bondi said. “Millions of illegal aliens with violent records have flooded into our communities, bringing violence and deadly drugs with them.”

In New York, the DOJ is investigating a law that allows illegal aliens to obtain a driver’s license, which does not include their immigration status.

“If these great men and women pull over someone and don’t have access to their background, they have no idea who they are dealing with, and it puts their lives on the line every single day,” Bondi said.

The Department of Justice filed charges against Illinois and Chicago last week for similar reasons.

Republicans in Congress also filed the Justice for Victims of Sanctuary Cities Act.

If passed, it would withhold federal funds from sanctuary cities, as long as they refuse to enforce federal immigration law and put American lives at risk.

Not only that, but the bill would also allow a victim or victim’s family to sue a state or local government if the entity failed to honor a lawful immigration detainer request made by the federal government that allowed the illegal alien to remain in America and commit the crime.

Donald Trump won a mandate to run the largest mass deportation in history.

And he is carrying out his mandate whether Democrats like it or not.

24/7 Focus Group Members react

After choosing the topic for this week’s Featured Story, our Editorial Team asked 24/7’s Focus Group Members to let us know if they supported Trump’s mass deportation plans and what they’d like to say to state and local officials standing in ICE’s way.

Charles B. began by saying, “The mass deportation of illegal immigrants is many years overdue.” Adding, “Government officials trying to block the deportation of illegal immigrants . . . should, themselves, be charged under federal statutes for violation of our Constitution.”

Robert H. spoke for many when he said, “I wholeheartedly approve of President Trump’s mass deportation. It’s one of the reasons I voted for him again. He honors his word. My comment to state and local government officials is to get on board, or you will no longer have a place of employment. That is a mandate from patriotic citizens like me. Enough said.”

Likewise, Gary U. added, “I support the President’s efforts to get all the illegal aliens out of our country and I believe that Sec. Homan is right.  If state and local officials get in the way, they are violating federal law and should be arrested, locked up, and prosecuted . . . Period!”

Chip B. warned, “ANYONE who ignores, defies, refuses to cooperate should be arrested, stand trial, convicted, and sentenced to prison.”

James D. had a creative way to convince so-called sanctuary cities and states to change their ways, saying, “I think that if they continue to resist the deportations then maybe we could save a little money by shipping and storing the illegals in these sanctuary jurisdictions, without federal funding, until the residents get fed up and ask us to deport them.”

Kelvin H. noted, “Sanctuary cities are run by Democrats.  They’re creating and causing a lot of crime, which they’re supporting, but yet they want to accuse Republicans and their supporters of committing the very same crimes they commit.”

Pamela S. wrote in to point out that “sanctuary cities are a drain on taxpayers,” noting they only “suck away money from citizens and workers who are here and contributing.”

Summing up so much of what we heard from our Focus Group readers, Frederick J. added, “I am thrilled and excited to see such a good President, doing what we elected him to do. This fast and this well makes me proud I voted for him. TRUMP – Go get them and keep cleaning the swamp.”
