And now Elon Musk has one big plan to shut down the IRS.
DOGE sets its sights on the IRS
The American people voted for change on November 5.
Donald Trump tapped Elon Musk to run the Department of Government Efficiency to drain the Swamp.
Musk began by tearing down agencies to the studs.
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) effectively were shut down.
President Trump folded USAID into the State Department and planned to fire 97 percent of the workforce.
Director of the Office of Management and Budget Russ Vought announced that the CFPB wouldn’t request any funding from the Federal Reserve this year.
Vought also emailed CFPB employees and told them to cease all work activities unless instructed otherwise.
DOGE is now auditing the IRS.
Laura Ingraham interviewed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent about how he planned to incorporate the DOGE audit into reforming the IRS, the bane of millions of Americans’ existence.
Bessent told Ingraham he’d only been in Washington, D.C. for three weeks, yet had already seen how furiously the swamp fights for its turf against reform.
“I’ve only been in Washington for three weeks, and what I can tell you is people don’t like when you move their cheese, but it’s not their cheese,” Bessent stated. “It’s the American taxpayer’s cheese.”
Ingraham asked Bessent what skeletons in the IRS’ closest DOGE would uncover.
“What cheese has been found in the IRS that might be eaten by the rats? What’s going on at the IRS today with DOGE?” Ingraham asked.
Bessent said the IRS was meeting none of its goals.
“Well, look, I don’t know what we’re going to find at the IRS, but I can tell you, with the IRS, I have three goals: collections, privacy, and customer service. And I don’t think that there is anyone who thinks that either of those three categories is firing on all cylinders by any means,” Bessent.
Privacy is a huge concern with the IRS.
During Joe Biden’s time in office, Deep State loyalists leaked the tax returns of wealthy Americans to the left-wing outlet ProPublica to try and build support for Biden’s trillions in dollars in tax increases.
Ingraham then posed a question to Bessent that tens of millions of Americans hoped the answer to was yes – and that was – could DOGE eliminate the IRS?
“Could the IRS be melded into another agency or shrunk significantly?” Ingraham asked.
Bessent didn’t commit to any solutions but did raise the prospect of Musk and DOGE utilizing AI to shrink down the IRS.
“Well, I think what we can do is, we’re at the advent of this great A.I. revolution. And the IRS, from my understanding, has 12 different I.T. systems that operate on a system called COBOL, which is what I learned to program in college in the 80s. So we’re going to do we’re going to do a big I.T. upgrade, and then we’ll see where that takes us,” Bessent concluded.
