The rules for the election go a long way towards deciding things.
Democrats just lost one of their big advantages.
And Donald Trump was grinning from ear to ear over this major election decision.
Glenn Youngkin’s executive order
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin took the lead in setting up a model for how to run elections in America.
Youngkin signed an executive order establishing common sense rules for this November’s election.
“The Virginia model for Election Security works. This isn’t a Democrat or Republican issue, it’s an American and Virginian issue,” a statement from Youngkin announcing the election integrity executive order read.
Youngkin’s executive order instructed state election officials to remove all noncitizens from the voting rolls.
“Every legal vote deserves to be counted without being watered down by illegal votes or inaccurate machines. In Virginia, we don’t play games and our model for election security is working,” Youngkin declared.
Between 2022 and 2024, the state of Virginia found more than 6,300 noncitizens on the voting rolls.
There were also more than 79,000 deceased individuals still on the voting rolls.
Youngkin didn’t stop there.
The executive order also mandated the Commonwealth of Virginia use paper ballots for the election.
Youngkin explained that in Virginia machines are only used for counting; there is no mail voting, and the state surveils drop boxes 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“We use 100 percent paper ballots with a strict chain of custody. We use counting machines, not voting machines, that are tested prior to every election and never connected to the internet. We do not mass mail ballots. We monitor our drop boxes 24/7,” Youngkin added.
Youngkin detailed how the state monitors its voter rolls to ensure only legal voters cast ballots.
“We verify the legal presence and identity of voters using DMV data and other trusted data sources to update our voter rolls daily, not only adding new voters, but scrubbing the lists to remove those that should not be on it, like the deceased, individuals that have moved, and non-citizens that have accidentally or maliciously attempted to register,” Youngkin continued.
Donald Trump’s response
In a post on Truth Social, Donald Trump hailed Youngkin’s executive order as an example every state should follow.
“The beautiful Commonwealth of Virginia, superbly led by Governor Glenn Youngkin, IS TAKING A STRONG LEAD IN SECURING THE ELECTION IN NOVEMBER — PROTECTING EVERY LEGAL VOTE AND KEEPING ILLEGAL ALIENS THAT HAVE BEEN LET INTO OUR COUNTRY FROM VOTING,” Trump wrote.
“All votes will be on paper ballots and counted safely and fairly, not by machines connected to the internet — A big security risk. We must work hard to make sure the Election is FAIR and SECURE!!! EVERY STATE SHOULD FOLLOW VIRGINIA’S LEAD. We need volunteers to watch the polls – So important,” Trump concluded.
Americans must have confidence in elections for the system of self-governance to endure.
Youngkin took steps to make sure voters can have faith that their vote will count and no illegal ballots will cancel it out.
Simple actions like the one taken by Youngkin will go a long way towards increasing faith in elections.
