Donald Trump’s lead in the polls may not be as secure as it seems.
The Democrats have a failsafe.
And Donald Trump faced the one wild card that would guarantee his defeat in 2024.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. running as a third-party candidate is one of the biggest wildcards of the 2024 election.
Kennedy could peel off some anti-establishment conservatives upset that Donald Trump won’t renounce “Operation: War Speed” and the controversial COVID vaccines it produced.
With polls showing high voter dissatisfaction at the prospect for a Trump-Biden rematch, this election holds the possibility of a third-party candidate reaching the 19 percent of the vote Ross Perot won in his Independent bid in 1992.
If Kennedy wants to mount a serious campaign for President, then he needs to secure ballot access in all 50 states.
Very few minor parties can get their candidate on the ballot everywhere.
The Libertarian Party is one.
And in an interview with CNN’s Michael Smerconish, Kennedy floated the idea of running on the Libertarian Party ticket as a very real possibility.
“Is it? Is it possible that you will seek as you are running as an independent, you will seek still to be the libertarian candidate, which would assure you getting on all 50 state ballots,” Smerconish asked.
“That is something that we’re looking at. We have a really good, relationship with the Libertarian Party. I’m going to be speaking at the California Libertarian Party convention. I think it’s next week or maybe in a couple of weeks. And, we’re we’re talking about me talking. I’m, speaking in New York, but, you know…And then we have our own political party now in six states, which have rules that make that give us an advantage to have our own political party,” Kennedy replied.
“Yeah, well, we are talking to the Libertarian Party, and I feel very comfortable with, with most of the values Libertarian Party,” RFK Jr. responded. “We have good relationships. I’m talking regularly to libertarian groups. So we’ll continue to do those talks,” Kennedy added.
The Libertarian Party exists for one reason and one reason only.
It’s a place for conservatives to cast a protest vote.
Democrats have no use for the Libertarian Party as it opposes all government regulation on the economy, firearms, and personal choices.
If Robert Kennedy Jr. wants to run as a Libertarian, many say that supports the theory that he is running with the intention of costing Donald Trump the election the way Ross Perot ran in 1992 to defeat George H.W. Bush.
