Democrat U.S. Senate candidates are now fleeing Kamala Harris to save their own skin

Oct 22, 2024

All eyes are currently on the too-close-to-call Presidential election between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris – and for good reason.

However, there is a great deal of consequential drama unfolding in gubernatorial and congressional contests all over the country.

And now Democrat U.S. Senate candidates are fleeing Kamala Harris in an effort to save their own skin.

Show Me a Senate majority

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is staring at a demotion directly in the face.

With West Virginia all but certain to flip red this November, and Montana looking almost certain to go red, Schumer and Democrats will need to knock-off at least one incumbent Republican Senator.

And one of their top targets is Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO).

Hawley is one of the most robust faces of the new conservative-populist movement that has taken over the GOP.

With the one-time bellwether Show Me State now securely a red state, Democrats are trying to convince Missouri voters that their U.S. Senate candidate is to the right of Hawley.

Lucas Kunce is airing commercials where he drives around in a pick-up truck touting his questionable military record and contested border control training.

And while spending millions to show voters his truck, Kunce wrote an American Prospect piece advocating for spending $4.5 trillion to combat the so-called “climate crisis” and advocated for the complete elimination of fossil fuel usage.

The other trick Kunce is trying to pull on Missouri voters revolves around Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.

Josh Hawley vs. Lucas Kunce

While Hawley is a long-time, outspoken Trump supporter – who is endorsed by the 45th President of the United States, Kunce has repeatedly refused to answer who he plans to vote for on November 5.

Kunce knows Trump will carry Missouri and its 10 electoral college votes this November.

Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in the state by about 18.5-points in 2016 and won over Joe Biden by about 15.5-points.

To score a victory over Hawley, Kunce needs to win many cross-ballot votes from Trump supporters in the state.

That will be tough to do if he admits he supports the Harris-Walz Presidential ticket.

In an interview on NBC news, Kunce dodged the question four times.

Interestingly, Kunce’s own campaign manager called RINO Larry Hogan – who is running for U.S. Senate in Maryland – unelectable for being unwilling to divulge who he plans to vote for in the Presidential election.

Lucas Kunce refuses to endorse Kamala Harris

However, Kunce’s strategy of distancing himself from the Vice President doesn’t seem to be working with Missouri voters.

The Kunce campaign is now canceling some campaign events due to lack of interest.

Barry County Democrats sent out a tweet alerting potential attendees that a Kunce townhall on a farm had to be canceled.

The Kunce campaign reportedly cited a lack of RSVPs for the reason behind the cancellation.

Hawley’s campaign director, Abigail Jackson, couldn’t help but poke some fun at the Kunce campaign’s expense.

“Democrat Lucas Kunce’s campaign is in full on meltdown mode,” Jackson tweeted. “They’re cancelling events because no one will come. Their own advisor agrees no one will vote for Lucas because he won’t tell Missouri who he’s voting for. And they’re turning off Twitter replies! Sad to see.”

When Hawley heard the news of Kunce’s event cancellation, the GOP Senator made an interesting invite.

“If Kunce keeps having to cancel events, he can always join us on the bus,” Hawley tweeted. “He did once want to be a staffer for me.”

Hawley is currently embarking on a bus tour across the entire state.

The tour launched on October 14 and has been a hit at each stop.

It’s scheduled to last right up to the election.
