Deion Sanders Mocked Colorado’s Doubters With One Brutal Stat After Stunning Georgia Tech

Viral photos this summer mocked Colorado's roster as too small to survive Power Four football.

Thursday night in Atlanta, those Buffaloes ran through Georgia Tech's defense like it wasn't there.

Deion Sanders had one number waiting to shut every doubter up.

Colorado's Line Answered Every Question About Size

Georgia Tech managed 51 rushing yards against Colorado on Thursday night.

Colorado's offensive line put up 183.

Sanders made sure everyone heard the gap twice.

"We rushed for 183 yards, my God. They rushed for 51. I thought we were small?" Sanders told reporters.

That line landed after a summer of posts claiming Colorado had eleven players standing 5-foot-9 or shorter.

Colorado lost starting left tackle Jordan Seaton to LSU in the offseason.

New offensive coordinator Brennan Marion rebuilt the line anyway, and it controlled the trenches from the opening snap.

Running backs Damian Henderson and Micah Welch combined for 123 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Colorado piled up three sacks and eight tackles for loss on defense too.

That's not a team that got bullied at the line.

That's a team that bullied Georgia Tech in front of its own home crowd.

A Blocked Kick Erased Last Year's Georgia Tech Nightmare

Georgia Tech beat Colorado 27-20 in Atlanta last season, a loss that fed the same critics Sanders answered Thursday.

This time quarterback Julian Lewis found his target with 37 seconds on the clock to put Colorado ahead.

Georgia Tech had one shot left at a game-winning field goal.

Tennessee transfer Boo Carter got a hand on the kick with three seconds showing, and Colorado escaped with a 14-13 win.

New defensive coordinator Chris Marve's unit held Georgia Tech running back Justice Haynes to 64 yards.

Monmouth transfer Lamont Lester Jr. recorded three sacks in his Colorado debut.

A team that finished 3-9 a year ago walked into a hostile road environment and won at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

Sanders noticed the building was full too.

"I think this is the first sellout they had in how long? … I think we had a little something to do with that," he said.

Then came the two words he'd clearly been saving.

"I'm back."

A year ago that sellout crowd was booing Colorado off the field in a loss that fueled every preseason prediction against Sanders.

This year the same building watched Boo Carter's block turn Georgia Tech's fans silent in three seconds.

That swing – from a 27-20 road loss to a 14-13 road win, in the same stadium – is the kind of pattern Sanders wanted the doubters to see.

Sanders Has Been Running This Same Play On Doubters For Years

Thursday wasn't the first time Sanders used a win to settle a score.

After Colorado's 45-42 upset of No. 17 TCU to open the 2023 season, Sanders stood at the podium and told the room, "I keep receipts."

He ran through every doubt raised about son Shedeur at quarterback and Travis Hunter playing both ways, then closed with, "Do you believe now?"

Three years later the questions shifted from whether Colorado could recruit to whether the roster was big enough to survive, and Sanders answered in the same tone.

Not everyone is buying it – fans and rival programs still brand Sanders' act a "clown show" and a "marketing show with a losing team," which is exactly why his sarcasm on Thursday landed where he aimed it.

Sanders isn't trying to win over the people calling him a circus act.

He's building a program by making his loudest skeptics eat their own words on national television, one blocked field goal at a time.

A 3-9 season and a summer of jokes about his roster's height just bought him another year of the last laugh, and he made sure Atlanta heard every word of it before he left the podium.
