David Spade exposed the ugly truth about this shocking Christmas tradition

Dec 15, 2025

The war on Christmas is reaching absurd new levels.

Now it's hitting Americans where they shop.

And David Spade exposed the ugly truth about this shocking Christmas tradition.

David Spade and fellow Saturday Night Live alum Dana Carvey were talking about the holiday season on Sunday's episode of their Fly on the Wall podcast when Spade brought up something that stopped him cold.

"Christmas is taking a little bit of a beating lately. It is December and I saw the other day there was a tree-lighting ceremony for the Christmas tree in some dopey mall," Spade told Carvey. "But it said 'tree lighting ceremony,' and they were careful not to say the word Christmas during the whole ceremony."¹

Spade didn't buy the excuse that using generic language makes the event more inclusive.

"Why? So it's just a tree?" the Tommy Boy star asked. "I would understand if you said, 'They're doing the tree lighting at the Grove' or whatever — but to consciously avoid that, then what is the tree for? A December to remember? Is it a Lexus dealership?"²

Hollywood comedian calls out anti-Christian double standard

The 61-year-old comedian made it clear this isn't some accidental oversight.

These are deliberate decisions by people who know exactly what they're doing.

"Isn't it for Christmas?" Spade continued. "I'd say stop that bulls***."³

Carvey jumped in with an observation that cuts right through the left's nonsense about religious sensitivity.

"I know a lot of different kinds of people," Carvey explained. "I've never met someone from another religious faith that was upset about a Christmas tree."⁴

The Wayne's World star pointed out what everyone already knows but the woke crowd refuses to admit — Christmas has become an American cultural celebration that transcends religion.

"If you're of faith, it's about Christianity," Carvey said. "But I think at this point in America, it's just Christmas. It's a fun holiday."⁵

Christians face double standard compared to other religions

Spade didn't hold back when talking about how Christianity gets treated compared to other faiths.

"I don't like the anti-Christian feel," the Joe Dirt star said. "Like is this where we get the hammer? You can't say that about anyone else."⁶

The comedian went on to reference the persecution Christians face around the world.

"We're taking a beating down in Africa," Spade continued. "It's like this is not the year to be Christian. I will tell you that."⁷

Spade was referring to the ongoing slaughter of Christians in Nigeria.

Over 7,000 Christians have been killed in Nigeria in 2025 alone — an average of 35 deaths per day.⁸

More than 52,000 Christians have been murdered in Nigeria since 2009, with 19,100 churches attacked or destroyed.⁹

President Donald Trump recently designated Nigeria as a "Country of Particular Concern" due to the systematic persecution of Christians.

Reports from Open Doors indicate that more Christians are killed every year in Nigeria than in the rest of the world combined.¹⁰

Spade's bigger point stands — you can attack Christianity in America without consequence, but try that with any other religion and watch what happens.

The left has spent years claiming they want inclusivity and respect for all beliefs.

But their actions prove otherwise.

Erasing Christmas from public celebrations while promoting political activism shows exactly what's going on — this isn't about inclusion, it's about targeting Christianity.

David Spade just said what millions of Americans have been thinking for years.
