Dan Rather attacked Donald Trump and reminded everyone of this lousy scandal from his past

Apr 8, 2024

For years, Dan Rather served as the face of liberal bias in the press.

Now, Rather apparently wants to make his presence felt in an election once again.

And Dan Rather attacked Donald Trump and reminded everyone of this lousy scandal from his past.

Dan Rather doesn’t even bother to hide his anti-Trump bias

During his 45-year career at CBS, Dan Rather presented himself as a straight newsman who took over from Walter Cronkite as the anchor of the CBS Evening News.

Rather’s career at CBS ended in disgrace during the 2004 Presidential Election.

But in his post-CBS career, Rather has ripped the mask off and let Americans know he is every bit the radical left-wing activist that his critics accused him of secretly being during his years behind the CBS anchor desk.

Rather’s latest anti-conservative broadside came in a social media post where he absurdly claimed his opposition to Donald Trump has nothing to do with partisan politics and everything to do with Trump supposedly being a racist, domestic terrorist threat to democracy.

“A few people have asked why I vehemently oppose Trump. Let me make this perfectly clear. It’s not about politics. I’ve voted for both parties. It’s about me, as a patriot, rejecting a cheating, lying, racist, treasonous, fascist, and vile man who attacks the free press, and wants to lead the country I love. It’s really that simple,” Rather wrote on X.

Rather’s anti-Trump attacks follow a pattern of falsehoods about GOP Presidents

Conservatives knew Rather was full of it.

Rather’s career at CBS ended in shame after he tried to swing the 2004 election to John Kerry.

In September 2004, Rather presented a report for 60 Minutes II about the “Killian memos” – documents supposedly from Lt. Col. Jerry B. Killian of the Texas Air National Guard that claimed favorable treatment was given to George W. Bush when he served in the Guard during the Vietnam War.

John Kerry ran on his biography of having served in Vietnam, and Democrats spent years trying to smear Bush as a draft dodger who used his father’s connections to join the Texas Air National Guard, which, at the time, meant you didn’t have to go to Vietnam.

But as soon as Rather aired the story, eagle-eyed critics immediately smelled a rat as the documents were typed out in fonts that weren’t available until the mid-1990s.

Rather’s source for the documents – a Busch critic named Lt. Col. Bill Burkett – admitted he misled Rather on where he obtained the documents. “I didn’t totally mislead you,” Burkett told Rather before declaring, “I did mislead you about one individual.”

Burkett then disavowed the memos, saying he had no idea if they were real or not.

Rather’s attempt to bring down Bush went down in flames and, shortly thereafter, Rather announced he was stepping down as anchor of the CBS Evening News.

For Rather’s critics it was good riddance.

“Dan Rather has been a legend in media for more than a quarter-century to many people around the world, but not to me,” Congressman Bill Shuster (R-PA) said at the time of Rather’s resignation. “For the entirety of his career, Rather has allowed his liberal bias to shape the news rather than report it.”
