Dan Aykroyd explains why he wouldn’t be able to make this cult classic in today’s world

It’s no secret Hollywood is dominated by radical left-wing thinking.

But even big name leftists are getting sick of woke rules ruining modern entertainment.

And now, Dan Aykroyd is explaining why he wouldn’t be able to make this cult classic in today’s Hollywood environment.

Are celebrities waking up?

For decades, Democrats have taken for granted that their friends in Hollywood would march with them in lockstep on their entire policy agenda.

And for the most part, that’s been true.

However, slowly but surely, more and more celebrities are starting to wake up to the radical nature of the Left.

Names like Mark Wahlberg, Rob Schneider, and Mario Lopez – just to name a few – have recently spoken out against leftist policies and politicians.

Actor Dan Aykroyd hasn’t exactly seen the light and come to the Right.

But, even he knows, thanks to so-called “social justice warriors,” Hollywood no longer makes classic movies like they used to.

Would Blues Brothers be made in 2023 Hollywood?

Aykroyd was recently a guest on Adam Carolla’s podcast, the Adam Carolla Show.

The comic recounted to Carolla behind-the-scenes stories about his time filming the Blues Brothers with his fellow Saturday Night Live alumnus, John Belushi.

Carolla was a big fan of the comedic stylings and genre-bending of the cult-classic flick.

“To me, that was an important movie,” Carolla said. “This concept must have been bizarre to explain to a studio.”

That’s when Aykroyd admitted Hollywood studios would never give the green light to the Blues Brothers today.

“You’d Never Make It Today,” Aykroyd explained. “They would say, ‘Excuse me? What, Catholic? What, wrecking so many cars and practically no CGI?’ … They wouldn’t do it.”

In the film, Elwood and “Joliet” Jake Blues were on “a mission from God” to save the Catholic orphanage where they grew up.

Portraying Catholics in a positive light was not a problem for movie studios back when Blues Brothers was released in 1980.

According to Hollywood in Toto, the Vatican’s official newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, issued a review of Blues Brothers, calling it “a worthy film for Catholics the world over.”

However, in 2023, positive portrayals of Christianity are a no-go zone.

What are Dan Aykroyd’s politics?

While Aykroyd is able to acknowledge Big Media is no friend to Christians – that doesn’t mean the comedian has gone based.

In 2020, he and his wife, Donna Dixon, gave money to the Biden Victory Fund Political Action Committee.

And he’s onboard with the woke concept that comedy should offend.

“There is so much in the world to comment on that is outside the realm of offensiveness,” Aykroyd said in a 2021 interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “As a writer, you can go to other areas and have successful creative endeavors. Scatological humor is fun. It’s easy laughs. But there is more intelligent writing that can happen if you stay away from the offensive material that should be rightly canceled for its hurtfulness. Who can be the subject of an impression today? That’s an area of discussion. Can I do my James Brown imitation? He was one of my best friends. I do his voice pretty good. But maybe I shouldn’t anymore.”

That’s right, comedians should be “rightly canceled” if they crack a joke about one of the protected classes – but don’t worry, comics can still make fart noises with their armpits.

24/7 Politics will keep you up-to-date on any developments to this ongoing story.
