Cory Booker just twisted the knife in Chuck Schumer’s back with nine brutal words

Nov 22, 2025

Chuck Schumer's grip on the Democrat Party is slipping away.

His disastrous government shutdown backfired spectacularly, and now his own colleagues are circling like vultures.

And Cory Booker just twisted the knife in Chuck Schumer's back with nine brutal words.

Schumer's shutdown disaster sparks Democrat mutiny

Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) traveled to New Hampshire over the weekend and delivered a message that sent shockwaves through Washington, D.C.

"It is time, though, for new leadership," Booker declared.¹

Those nine words were a direct shot at Schumer, who has led Senate Democrats since 2017.

Booker tried to soften the blow by praising the older generation of Democrat leaders.

"Chuck Schumer's generation, Nancy Pelosi's generation, John Lewis's generation – they have so much to be proud of," Booker said.¹

But there was no mistaking what came next.

"The other generations – X, Millennials, Z – it's time for us to step up. The stage is waiting for us to lead," he added.¹

Booker isn't alone in his revolt against Schumer's leadership.

Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA) piled on during an appearance on Meet the Press.

"Really, is Chuck Schumer, when you think about it, just from a common sense test, do you think Democrats around the country think that Chuck Schumer should be the face of the future of the Democratic Party?" Khanna asked. "Of course not."²

Khanna named names when asked who should replace Schumer.

"Chris Murphy is a top leader. Cory Booker is a dynamic leader. Brian Schatz is a dynamic leader. I mean, Elizabeth Warren is someone whose ideology I appreciate. There are a lot of great talent," he said.²

"We need to be more independent and truth-telling in this country and bold and not rest on niceties," Khanna said.²

Schumer bowed to the Marxist wing and got burned

The calls for new leadership come in the aftermath of Schumer's pointless government shutdown that accomplished nothing except making Democrats look foolish.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) spent weeks reminding Americans exactly who was responsible for the shutdown and why.

"It is shameful, and for what? Chuck Schumer, the architect of this shutdown, is trying to bow to the Marxist wing of his party," Johnson said.³

The Speaker exposed Schumer's real motivation when he quoted the Senate Minority Leader's own words.

"You heard him yesterday. He said, in his own words, every day of the shutdown, he said, quote, gets better for us," Johnson explained. "Better for who, Chuck? For the Democrats in the Senate, so you can bow to the Marxist base."³

Johnson made it clear that Schumer didn't care about the consequences of his stunt.

"Yeah, the far-left base, the party, is satisfied. They don't mind the troops go without pay and civilian workers are furloughed. They don't care," Johnson stated.³

The Speaker noted that former DNC chair David Hogg heaped praise on Schumer during the shutdown.

"This is what Chuck Schumer was after. This is what he desires," Johnson said.³

Time and again, Johnson hammered home the same point.

"What this is about is about fear. The Schumer shutdown was never about health care. That's a distraction," Johnson explained, pointing to Schumer's fear of the radical left wing of the Democrat Party.³

Schumer's own party has turned against him

The polling tells an ugly story for Schumer.

A weekly survey from the Economist/YouGov found that a majority of Americans disapprove of the way Schumer is handling his job in Congress.⁴

Even worse for the Senate Minority Leader, a majority of Democrats failed to approve of his job performance.⁴

That's his own party giving him a failing grade.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) dodged questions last week about whether Schumer should give up his power over the caucus following the shutdown debacle.⁴

When even AOC won't defend you, that's a sign your days are numbered.

Schumer spent years building his power in Washington, D.C. by positioning himself as the indispensable leader who could unite the moderate and radical wings of the Democrat Party.

That strategy just blew up in his face.

He thought he could appease the Marxist base with a government shutdown stunt, but all he did was make himself look weak and ineffective.

Now younger Democrats smell blood in the water.

Booker's trip to New Hampshire wasn't a coincidence. That's where presidential campaigns are built.

He's positioning himself for 2028 while simultaneously kneecapping the man who stands in his way.

Schumer wanted to be the face of the Democrat resistance to President Trump's second term.

Instead, he's become the face of Democrat failure, and his own colleagues are lining up to push him aside.
