Energy Secretary Chris Wright delivered a speech in Warsaw that has the climate change crowd fuming.
The Trump administration just fired a major shot across the bow of climate alarmists.
And Chris Wright just dropped this bombshell about climate change that left European leaders shell-shocked.
Wright delivers bombshell speech at Three Seas Business Forum
Energy Secretary Chris Wright ripped the climate change agenda to shreds during his keynote address at the Three Seas Business Forum in Warsaw, Poland on April 28, directly challenging European energy policies.
In a speech that pulled no punches, Wright attacked what he called “climate alarmism” and blamed it for reducing “freedom, prosperity, and national security” across Western Europe.
Wright didn’t mince words about what he believes is at stake for European nations.
“This is a ‘time for choosing’, to quote the late, great President Ronald Reagan,” Wright told the audience of international leaders and business representatives.
He painted a stark picture of two different paths nations can take on energy policy. On one side is what he called “energy for the sake of human flourishing” that is “abundant, secure, affordable and reliable.” On the other is a system of “top-down imposition of mandates” justified by climate change fears.
Wright suggested that climate alarmism might be a pretext for government control rather than a response to a genuine crisis.
“Could it be instead that a desire to grow centralization and re-establish top-down control is best served by climate alarmism?” Wright asked the audience. “Is it the chicken or the egg? I don’t know.”
Wright blasts European energy policies
The Energy Secretary specifically called out Germany’s failed energy transformation as a cautionary tale for other nations.
“Germany has more than doubled its electricity generation capacity over the last 15 years, yet German electricity production today is 20% below where it was 15 years ago. And each unit of electricity has tripled in cost. Is that success?” Wright asked.
He argued that expensive and unreliable energy systems drive industry out of national borders and reduce citizens’ quality of life by forcing them to cut energy consumption.
Wright backed up his arguments with economic data showing that since 2010, the EU’s share of global consumption has plummeted from 25% to just 18%, while America’s has grown from 25% to 28%.
“Surely many things are responsible for this dramatic divergence. It is my belief that diverging energy pathways has been the largest driver of economic outcomes,” Wright stated.
Wright challenges climate change orthodoxy
The Energy Secretary didn’t just critique European policy choices – he directly challenged the fundamental assumptions behind climate alarmism.
“While climate change is a real physical phenomenon, nothing in the data indicates that climate change is even close to the world’s most urgent problem,” Wright declared.
He called the pursuit of “Net Zero 2050” goals both “unachievable” and harmful, claiming “the blind pursuit of it will cause, is causing, far more human damage than climate change itself.”
Instead of focusing on climate mitigation, Wright argued for prioritizing energy access for the billions of people who lack basic energy services.
“Over two billion people today still lack access to basic energy services like clean cooking fuels. Millions annually die from indoor air pollution from burning wood and dung indoors,” Wright explained.
He spoke passionately about how “seven billion people only aspire to what we have” in terms of energy usage and that “fulfilling their energy aspirations is the energy challenge of our time.”
America’s energy independence under Trump
Wright’s speech highlighted President Trump’s energy agenda, which prioritizes “prosperity at home and peace abroad” through energy freedom and abundance.
He pointed out that despite criticisms of America’s energy policies, “no nation has reduced greenhouse gas emissions more than the United States” while maintaining affordable energy.
The Energy Secretary also celebrated the nuclear partnership between the United States and Poland, calling it “strategic and long-lasting” and predicting it will “tightly bind our nations through the next century.”
Wright made it clear that the Trump administration views natural gas and nuclear power – not wind and solar – as the two biggest “climate solutions” for the coming decades “for the simple reason that they work.”
Wright urges Central European nations to choose energy freedom
Wright concluded his speech with a direct appeal to Central European nations to join “Team Energy Freedom” rather than following Western Europe’s path of expensive, unreliable energy.
“Central Europe faces a time for choosing. You all have a long history of choosing freedom and sovereignty for your citizens,” Wright said. “We warmly welcome you to join us on Team Energy Freedom and prosperity for citizens. President Trump’s agenda of prosperity at home and peace abroad is a team sport!”
His speech comes at a time when many European nations are reconsidering their energy policies amid soaring costs and reliability concerns.
Secretary Wright’s blunt assessment of climate policies represents one of the Trump administration’s most forceful statements on climate change since returning to office.
Climate activists are already denouncing Wright’s comments, but his message of prioritizing affordable and reliable energy over climate alarmism will likely resonate with many Americans facing high energy bills.
