Chris Cuomo was one of the biggest stars on CNN before he was fired.
He’s gone rogue since leaving the network.
And Chris Cuomo started a nasty fight with Joe Scarborough for one unexpected reason.
Chris Cuomo apologized to Donald Trump about the media
Former CNN host Chris Cuomo discussed what he thought were the biggest stories of 2024 on his podcast.
President-elect Donald Trump being shot at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13 was one the defining moments of last year for Cuomo.
He feuded with Trump over the years, but he put it aside after the assassination attempt out of “humanity.”
Cuomo discussed calling Trump after he was shot to check in with him and took a swipe at MSNBC Morning Joe co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski for going to Mar-a-Lago for a secret meeting with the President-elect after the election.
“That assassination – that’s why I called him,” Cuomo said. “But I wasn’t doing what Joe and Mika did. I’m not looking to make up with Trump.”
Cuomo was one of the biggest Trump haters at CNN but he apologized to the President-elect after the assassination for the way the media was covering him.
“I believe that Donald Trump has disqualified himself from office in this country with his behavior, words and deeds,” Cuomo added. “It doesn’t mean I’m not going to be fair to him as a journalist. And I think I’ve been as fair or more than most. You don’t like it? I get it. I get it. But that’s the job.”
He acknowledged the media downplaying the first assassination took a toll on Trump and his family.
“I called him to say, ‘I am sorry that people in the media are playing this down like it didn’t really happen to you, or that it’s not that big a deal,’” Cuomo explained. “’That sucks. And I feel for your family and your grandkids. I don’t know how you’re dealing with it right now. I don’t know how they’re letting you stay in the race.’”
Chris Cuomo goes after Joe Scarborough for taking a secret meeting with Donald Trump
Scarborough and Brzezinski spent the election smearing Trump as a fascist and a threat to democracy.
They announced shortly after the election they had traveled to Mar-a-Lago to meet with Trump to reestablish ties before his second term.
Cuomo called out the Morning Joe co-hosts for trying to suck up to Trump while claiming that his phone call to him was out of genuine concern.
“I don’t know how he stayed in the race,” Cuomo said. “I would have never stayed in it. Incredibly brave what he did in that moment. And no, I don’t like how he uses his power. Well, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.”
Cuomo made it clear his phone call wasn’t about trying to get in Trump’s good graces.
“That’s not why I did it. I wasn’t doing a Joe and Mika. Going down there trying to kiss his a** so that I could get access. I don’t give a s*** if I have access,” Cuomo continued. “I reached out to him because I thought that this was a moment that demanded humanity, and it wasn’t receiving it.”
Chris Cuomo is kicking off the New Year by going after two of the biggest stars on MSNBC.
