The swamp creatures at the IRS have had a free pass to terrorize American taxpayers for far too long.
But one key Republican just threw his support behind Donald Trump’s pick to clean house.
And Billy Long gets one vote that could change everything at the IRS.
Senate Finance Committee Chairman backs Trump’s IRS nominee
Former Congressman Billy Long from Missouri is President Trump’s choice to transform the Internal Revenue Service from a weapon of political persecution into an agency that actually serves the American people.
The IRS has become synonymous with government overreach and political targeting under the Biden administration.
From harassment of conservative groups to unleashing 87,000 new agents on middle-class families, the tax agency desperately needs new leadership.
Long faced his confirmation hearing before the Senate Finance Committee where he outlined his vision to modernize the agency and change its toxic culture.
Senate Finance Committee Chairman Mike Crapo (R-ID) announced his support for Long’s nomination during an executive session to consider the former congressman’s confirmation.
"At his hearing, Congressman Long outlined his vision to transform the IRS through systems modernization, a renewed focus on efficiency and a much-needed change in IRS culture," Crapo stated.
The Idaho Republican was particularly impressed by Long’s commitment to depoliticize the tax agency.
Crapo said he was "encouraged to hear Congressman Long clearly commit that ‘the IRS will not, [and] should not, be politicized on my watch.’"
Long promises to end IRS weaponization
The IRS has a long history of targeting conservative organizations and Trump supporters.
During the Obama years, the agency deliberately delayed tax-exempt status for Tea Party groups and other conservative organizations.
Under Biden, Democrats pushed for expanded IRS funding that could potentially add tens of thousands of new employees over time.
Long’s pledge to depoliticize the agency represents a major shift from the current approach.
Chairman Crapo noted that Long committed to ensuring "the IRS focuses on helping American taxpayers to better understand and meet their tax responsibilities, and that it enforces the law with integrity and fairness to all."
This would be a dramatic change from the Biden era where the IRS seemed more interested in intimidating taxpayers than helping them comply with the tax code.
Long also promised to modernize the agency’s antiquated computer systems that have frustrated taxpayers for decades trying to get basic services.
Democrats try to derail nomination with smear campaign
Democrats and their media allies have launched their typical smear campaign against Long to try and sink his nomination.
They’ve raised questions about his tax consulting work and campaign contributions in a desperate attempt to find something to attack.
But Chairman Crapo noted that Long successfully addressed these concerns during the confirmation process.
"Congressman Long clearly affirmed that all of his tax consulting work was as an independent contractor for Capitol Edge Strategies," Crapo explained. "He never performed work for White River or anyone else regarding Native American tribal tax credits."
Long also followed all Federal Election Commission guidelines regarding campaign contributions.
Crapo praised Long for "working through the Finance Committee’s rigorous nomination process, in addition to responding to a large amount of questions for the record."
The chairman concluded that "Congressman Long is uniquely suited to instill needed change at the IRS and I will vote in favor of his nomination."
Time to clean house at the IRS
American taxpayers deserve an IRS that works for them instead of against them.
For too long, the agency has been used as a political weapon to target conservatives and intimidate law-abiding citizens.
Billy Long represents the kind of outsider leadership needed to drain the swamp at the IRS and restore fairness to tax enforcement.
His business background and experience in Congress give him the skills needed to tackle the agency’s systemic problems.
Chairman Crapo’s endorsement gives Long’s nomination crucial momentum as it heads to a full Senate vote.
The time has come to end the IRS’s reign of terror against American taxpayers.
Billy Long could be the man to finally make the IRS work for the people instead of the swamp.
