Bill Cassidy Made One Desperate Move That Proves He Knows His Reelection Is In Serious Trouble

Jan 30, 2026

Bill Cassidy betrayed Trump and Louisiana Republicans never forgot.

The Senator voted to convict Trump after January 6th and got censured by his own state party.

And Bill Cassidy made one desperate move that proves he knows his reelection is in serious trouble.

Cassidy Launches Task Force After Trump Endorses Primary Challenger

Senator Bill Cassidy just announced he's forming a task force to investigate fraud in Minnesota's social services programs.

The timing couldn't be more obvious.

Trump endorsed Congresswoman Julia Letlow to challenge Cassidy in the Republican primary just days ago, and suddenly Cassidy wants to look tough on government waste.

Cassidy is leading a seven-member Senate HELP Committee panel to investigate the massive fraud scandal in Minnesota.

Federal prosecutors estimate billions in taxpayer dollars were stolen from programs meant to help children and families.

The Feeding Our Future scheme alone accounted for $250 million in fraudulent pandemic relief funds, with more than 50 people convicted.

"Our tax dollars are supposed to help American families, not line the pockets of fraudsters," Cassidy told Fox News Digital.

That's rich coming from a Senator who stabbed Trump in the back when it mattered most and almost certainly voted to send a bunch of that money to Minnesota in the first place.

Cassidy Can't Erase His Impeachment Vote

This isn't Cassidy's first attempt to look tough on Minnesota fraud.

Earlier this month, he led the entire Senate Republican Conference demanding answers from outgoing Governor Tim Walz about the child care fraud scandal.

But here's what Cassidy doesn't want Louisiana voters remembering.

He was one of only seven Republican Senators who voted to convict Trump in February 2021.

The Louisiana Republican Party immediately censured him.

Trump called him "a TOTAL FLAKE" and a "stiff."

Cassidy tried to brush it off, claiming his impeachment vote wouldn't hurt him in 2026 because he'd "done a good job for the state."

Fast forward to January 2026, and Trump just endorsed Letlow to primary Cassidy.

Louisiana Treasurer John Fleming already jumped in the race months ago specifically citing Cassidy's impeachment vote.

State Senator Blake Miguez is running too.

Now Cassidy's scrambling to look like an America First warrior.

The Numbers Don't Lie About Cassidy's 2026 Nightmare

Trump carried Louisiana by 22 points in 2024.

Louisiana Republicans voted overwhelmingly to censure Cassidy after his impeachment vote.

And unlike his last reelection in 2020 when Louisiana used a "jungle primary" system, the state now has closed primaries.

That means only registered Republicans can vote in the GOP primary, and those are exactly the voters most furious about Cassidy's betrayal.

The task force will investigate fraud across health, education, and labor programs with six other Republican Senators including Ashley Moody, Roger Marshall, Tommy Tuberville, Jon Husted, Markwayne Mullin, and Tim Scott.

Senator Moody noted that up to 10% of the entire U.S. budget gets stolen every year by fraudsters.

Trump supporters in Louisiana aren't stupid.

They watched Cassidy vote to convict Trump, then refuse to endorse Trump during the 2024 campaign, then only vote to confirm Trump's cabinet picks after the damage was done.

The Minnesota fraud scandal is absolutely real and demands investigation.

Prosecutors believe fraudsters stole more than $9 billion from 14 different Medicaid programs in Minnesota going back to 2018.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Thompson called it "staggering, industrial-scale fraud."

More than 78 people have been charged in the Feeding Our Future case, with the crooks blowing stolen money on mansions, Ferraris, Rolex watches, and beach vacations in exotic locations.

That's disgusting and those criminals deserve the harshest punishment.

But Louisiana voters see right through Cassidy's timing.

He betrayed Trump when it counted, and now he's desperately trying to salvage his dying political career by jumping on the fraud investigation bandwagon eight days after Trump endorsed his primary opponent.

Louisiana Republicans have long memories, and Cassidy's impeachment vote will haunt him all the way to the April 18th primary.

He can form all the task forces he wants, but the base knows who stood with Trump and who turned their back on him when it mattered most.
