New York City has already blown past $10 billion in migrant spending over the last four years – money that came straight out of the pockets of working New Yorkers who followed every rule, paid every tax, and couldn't get a dime of help when they needed it.
Now Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez just made it worse.
This week she stood next to radical NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani and recorded a video – delivered entirely in Spanish – telling illegal immigrants exactly how to get free taxpayer-funded daycare for their children.
AOC Tells Illegal Immigrants How to Claim Free Childcare
The video dropped Tuesday, timed to a Friday enrollment deadline for New York City's free pre-K and 3-K programs.
Mamdani opened by joking that his Spanish was "a little rusty."
AOC had no such problem.
She delivered the pitch fluently – reassuring Spanish-speaking families that "any New York City parent, regardless of your occupation, income or immigration status, is eligible to sign their child up."
She added that the application process was designed to be "easy, no matter who you are," and listed three enrollment methods including a hotline offering translation in over 200 languages.
No mention of citizenship. No mention of legal status. Just a step-by-step guide to claiming benefits that American families struggled to afford on their own.
Libs of TikTok put it plainly: "Democrats are taking Americans' money and spending it on foreign invaders."
Mamdani's Budget: $1.2 Billion More for Migrants While He Eyes Your Property Taxes
This wasn't a one-off feel-good moment.
Mamdani's own fiscal year 2027 budget proposal earmarks another $1.2 billion specifically for migrants arriving in New York City, according to the New York Post.
That brings the total migrant tab to over $10 billion across the last five years.
At the same time, Mamdani is threatening New Yorkers with a 9.5 percent property tax hike to close a $5.4 billion budget gap.
The city is broke, it's threatening to raise your property taxes 9.5 percent, and AOC just filmed a Spanish-language commercial to make sure illegal immigrants know where to pick up their free childcare.
Governor Kathy Hochul is right there alongside them – having announced in January what she called "an unprecedented investment" to deliver "universal childcare" across New York State, with Mamdani at her side.
Working families in Rochester and Buffalo – who spent years paying out-of-pocket for daycare nobody offered to cover – will now fund it for people who never went through the process of becoming Americans.
NYC Sanctuary City Policies Built the System That Makes This Possible
This isn't a new policy. It's the full expression of a decade-long agenda.
New York's sanctuary city status – which blocks local law enforcement from cooperating with ICE – has been the infrastructure that makes every program like this possible.
Former Mayor Eric Adams started the framework with "Promise NYC" in 2022, a city-funded childcare program explicitly designed to extend benefits to families ineligible under federal rules due to immigration status.
Mamdani accelerated it the moment he took office, telling reporters in January: "These are programs for every single New Yorker. These are not programs that are going to ask the immigration status of any one of the children."
Then he hired AOC to say it in Spanish.
CNN's Fareed Zakaria – not exactly a right-wing outlet – recently called out Mamdani's record directly: "Blue cities are out of control. Promising more, spending more, delivering less."
That's the best-case summary from someone who probably voted for these people.
The Heritage Foundation has documented what this trajectory looks like long-term: a $2.1 billion state fund in New York paying unemployment and stimulus benefits to illegal aliens – exhausted in three months.
New York is now staring down a $5.4 billion budget gap, a looming property tax explosion, and a socialist mayor whose first budget shovels over a billion dollars to people who crossed the border illegally – and the response from AOC and Mamdani isn't to cut spending.
It's to film a recruitment video making sure more people know how to claim what's left.
