The Democrat Party has been racing to the far-left for years.
Now one of their own just exposed the ugly truth about where that’s led them.
And Andrew Cuomo devastated Democrats with this unthinkable betrayal that left the Left in shambles.
Andrew Cuomo turns on his own party with brutal honesty
Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was once considered a rising star in the Democrat Party.
He served three terms as Governor of New York before resigning in disgrace in August 2021 amid multiple scandals.
But Cuomo has been making a comeback of sorts by positioning himself as a voice of reason within the Democrat Party.
And this week, he delivered his harshest criticism yet of the party he once hoped to lead.
Cuomo is currently running for mayor of New York City and has been framing the race as a battle between mainstream Democrats and the far-left wing of the party.
Cuomo framed the vote as a choice between the mainstream Democratic Party and the far-left Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), according to The Times of Israel.
His leading challenger in the mayoral race is State Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani, who is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.
This week, even before jumping into the mayoral race, Cuomo received an endorsement from Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.), who told the New York Post that the former governor “has the courage to stand up to extremist politics — both from the far left and right.”
“We don’t need a Mr. Nice Guy,” Torres said. “We need a Mr. Tough Guy.”
Democrat cities crumble under far-left policies
Cuomo has been pointing to the obvious evidence of failed Democrat leadership in major cities across the country.
Urban decay, rising homelessness, and public safety concerns have become defining characteristics of Democrat-controlled cities.
From San Francisco’s open-air drug markets to Seattle’s homeless encampments to Chicago’s skyrocketing crime rates, the evidence is overwhelming.
Yet Democrat leaders continue to double down on the same failed policies because they’re terrified of upsetting their far-left base.
This is exactly what happens when ideology trumps common sense governance.
Democrat mayors and city councils refuse to take basic steps to address problems like homelessness, crime, and drug addiction because those solutions don’t align with far-left orthodoxy.
Instead of clearing homeless encampments that pose public health and safety risks, they allow them to proliferate.
Instead of cracking down on crime, they embrace “criminal justice reform” that lets dangerous criminals back on the streets.
Instead of addressing the root causes of urban decay, they blame systemic racism and demand more taxpayer funding for failed programs.
The far-left has hijacked the Democrat Party
What Cuomo is describing through his campaign positioning is nothing new to anyone who’s been paying attention.
The far-left wing of the Democrat Party has been growing increasingly powerful for years.
They’ve used primary challenges and social media mob tactics to force moderate Democrats into submission.
Any Democrat who dares to question far-left policies gets branded as a racist, a sellout, or worse.
The result is that reasonable Democrats either stay silent or get pushed out of the party entirely.
Look at what happened to moderate Democrats like Joe Manchin, who left the party rather than continue dealing with the far-left’s constant attacks.
Or consider how quickly Democrats abandoned common-sense positions on issues like crime and immigration when the far-left demanded purity.
The party that once prided itself on being a “big tent” has become a small, ideologically rigid faction controlled by its most extreme elements.
Cuomo’s repositioning comes at the right time
While Cuomo’s political comeback has been controversial, his timing couldn’t be better for taking on the far-left.
Former New York governor Andrew Cuomo may have left office in disgrace, but he’s increasingly back in the good graces of New York City residents, according to The Washington Post.
Cuomo isn’t just ahead in the polls; he’s at more than twice the level of support of the next-closest competitor, State Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani.
Meanwhile, the problems that result from far-left policies have only gotten worse since Donald Trump returned to the White House.
The contrast between Trump’s America First agenda and the Democrats’ far-left radicalism has never been starker.
Trump is focused on securing the border, cutting taxes, reducing regulations, and restoring law and order.
Democrats are still obsessing over pronouns, climate change, and identity politics while their cities burn.
Cuomo has been mentioned as a potential candidate for a U.S. Senate primary as questions remain if voters in the deeply blue state would support him again after the scandals, Fox News reported.
He has also been repositioned himself as a commentator who often calls out his own party on various issues.
The reckoning is coming
Cuomo’s positioning against the far-left wing of his own party is a sign that some Democrats are finally waking up to reality.
But for most Americans, this reckoning is long overdue.
The evidence of Democrat failure has been obvious for years in cities like Portland, Minneapolis, and New York.
Rising crime, homelessness, and urban decay didn’t happen overnight.
They’re the predictable result of putting far-left ideology ahead of practical governance.
The question now is whether Democrats will listen to voices like Cuomo and change course, or continue down the path of radical extremism.
Given their track record, don’t hold your breath.
The far-left activists have no interest in moderation or compromise.
They’d rather see cities burn than give up their ideological purity.
And until Democrat voters start holding their leaders accountable for these failures, nothing will change.
But Cuomo’s willingness to take on his own party’s extremists shows there may be hope for reasonable Democrats who want to govern effectively rather than pander to radical activists.
