Three Key Takeaways:
- Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, alongside Bernie Sanders, launched a high-profile “Fighting Oligarchy” tour, aiming to rally Democrat voters, but some strategists argue it could alienate moderate voters and boost Trump’s base.
- Ocasio-Cortez’s focus on galvanizing the far-left risks deepening the divide within the Democratic Party, with concerns that her spotlight-hogging could further alienate moderates needed for future elections.
- Despite drawing large crowds, Ocasio-Cortez’s controversial stance and potential primary challenge against Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer could lead to significant damage for the Democratic Party in the long run.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wants to run for President in 2028.
But she’s already creating problems for herself.
And Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made one awful decision that will haunt her.
Bernie Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez hit the road with rallies
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) tapped into the anger of the Democrat base.
Democrat voters are furious at the party’s leadership for not fighting hard enough against President Donald Trump.
Sanders launched a “Fighting Oligarchy” tour with Ocasio-Cortez as a guest speaker at several stops.
The pair drew a reported crowd of more than 30,000 people in Denver, Colorado – the largest political rally in the state since former President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign.
Ocasio-Cortez is basking in the limelight of these high-profile rallies as she eyes a 2028 Presidential campaign.
Former Democrat megadonor John Morgan argued that she and Sanders were making a big mistake during an appearance on NewsNation’s Cuomo.
Host Chris Cuomo asked if it was a good strategy for Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders to target so-called oligarchs.
“It’s a mistake … I agree with [Democrat strategist James] Carville,” Morgan replied.
Carville said that Democrats should play possum and let Trump become unpopular on his own.
“Look, the new [Democratic National Committee] says this to me: They learned nothing from the last election. What they need to do, Chris, is they need to do nothing,” Morgan explained. “They need to let the dumpster fire rage. Let everybody suffer, fight back, push back, be against it.”
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is firing up the wrong voters
Morgan admitted that Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders served as lighting rods for Trump supporters.
“See, AOC and Bernie [galvanize] MAGA because MAGA hates them and the thing MAGA loves the most other than what they love, they love watching them twisting and turning,” Morgan stated. “They liked to tear the wing off the fly and watch the flower walk around in a circle on the table. They enjoy that as much as they enjoy destroying the Department of Education.”
A CNN poll found that Democrats and Democrat-leaning independents ranked Ocasio-Cortez as the top choice for “who best reflects the core values” of the Democrat Party.
Ocasio-Cortez came in first at 10% ahead of former Vice President Kamala Harris, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and California Governor Gavin Newsom.
The same poll found that 52% of Democrats thought the party was going in the wrong direction.
Ocasio-Cortez has also been mentioned as a potential Primary challenger against Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) after he voted with Republicans to avert a government shutdown.
Democrat pollster Mark Penn, who worked for former President Bill Clinton, warned Ocasio-Cortez primarying Schumer would send the party into a tailspin.
“I don’t think she’s going to challenge Schumer, but if she does, I mean, already the Democratic ratings are down to 29%. I’ve never seen anything like it,” Penn explained. “That means the Left base is with the Democratic Party and the moderates are all leaving the party. So AOC taking off Schumer, wow, that could finish this party off. This could put it into the wilderness the way the Labour Party was for a decade.”
The 2024 Election was a rebuke of the far-Left of the Democrat Party.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hogging the spotlight is bad news for a party that’s desperate to get moderate and swing voters back into the fold.
