Democrats are trying to figure out how it all went so wrong in the 2024 election.
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tried to get to the bottom of it.
And Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez left an MSNBC host flabbergasted with why people voted for Trump.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez goes on a fact-finding mission
No Congressional District in America swung farther to the Right than the one represented by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Ocasio-Cortez represents the Bronx, and the Bronx was Ground Zero for Trump’s gains with black men, and Hispanics and Trump won the highest percentage of the vote in the Bronx for a Republican since Ronald Reagan.
Ocasio-Cortez couldn’t believe a good portion of her constituents would vote to re-elect both her and Donald Trump, so Ocasio-Cortez set out to find out why.
The socialist Congresswoman went on social media and asked her followers to let her know why they voted for both her and Donald Trump.
Ocasio-Cortez wasn’t prepared at all for the response she got.
In an appearance on Joy Reid’s show, Ocasio-Cortez said the number one reason voters in her district gave for picking both her and Trump was that they felt the system was rigged in favor of the powerful and the special interests.
“Right, right. And we — I think we saw some of that happen as well. But when it comes to people who split their ticket, I think a lot of people cited several different things,” Ocasio-Cortez began.
“One is there is universal frustration in this country — much of it I actually think justified — that is raging at a political establishment that centers corporate interests, billionaires and puts their needs ahead of the needs of working Americans,” Ocasio-Cortez added.
“And we know that we can either channel this righteous rage because there are people whose SNAP was cut off, their child tax credits were cut off, but they’re seeing people like Elon Musk getting tax breaks and kissing up to Donald Trump in order to do so,” Ocasio-Cortez concluded.
Reid couldn’t believe that Ocasio-Cortez’s voters would pick Trump because Democrats were in the pockets of the billionaire class when Trump’s new best friend is Elon Musk.
“But they vote for — then why vote for Elon Musk and Donald Trump?”
Reid and Ocasio-Cortez ignored several important points.
As John Fetterman astutely pointed out, Americans view Elon Musk as the equivalent of the Iron Man character that Robert Downey Jr. played in the Marvel cinematic universe.
Musk and Trump – in their own way – are billionaires that everyday Americans can relate to.
And the trials – literally – and tribulations that Democrats put Trump through in terms of four indictments, one conviction, two impeachments, and two assassination attempts, including one where Trump got shot in the ear, signified to angry Americans that Trump was the crusading outsider the system tried to crush or even kill.
Donald Trump pulled off a feat where voters wanted a return to the economy he presided over but still didn’t see him as part of the established order.
And in a change election, that is how Trump won.
