Democrat Representative Al Green is back with more outlandish accusations against Donald Trump.
This time, he’s gone completely off the rails.
And Al Green stunned Trump supporters with this unhinged claim about military force.
Green pushes for a third impeachment attempt
Texas Democrat Representative Al Green has been one of the most vocal opponents of Donald Trump throughout his presidency.
Back in December 2017, Green became the first member of Congress to formally push for Trump’s impeachment, a full two years before Democrats’ first impeachment campaign.
After leading two failed impeachment efforts, the Texas congressman is now pushing for a third attempt – and his reasoning has left even fellow Democrats shaking their heads.
In a recent interview with Newsweek, Green made the shocking claim that impeaching Trump a third time is necessary to stop the President from unleashing the military on American cities.
“You don’t wait [to start impeachment efforts] until tanks are rolling down the streets of American cities,” Green said. “It’s too late then. You don’t wait until you have what everybody will recognize as a constitutional crisis, because that can be the forerunner to tanks moving down the streets of American cities.”
Green argued that impeachment should be used preemptively as a way to prevent what he imagines could be a military takeover.
“We have this unique opportunity to use impeachment as a deterrent to stop him and prevent what could become more than we have seen in this country in terms of power emanating from a presidency that is out of control,” Green stated.
Green’s history of impeachment obsession
This isn’t the first time Green has pushed outlandish theories about President Trump.
Green introduced articles of impeachment against Trump in 2017, 2018, and 2019, failing each time. He was also a key proponent of the Democrats’ first two formal impeachment efforts.
What makes his latest claims particularly bizarre is the complete lack of evidence. There has been no indication President Trump plans to deploy military forces in American cities, nor has the administration made any statement suggesting such actions.
Green’s comments come as Republicans control both the House and Senate, making any impeachment effort dead on arrival. Yet that reality hasn’t stopped the Texas Democrat from continuing his crusade.
Many political analysts see this as another example of Trump Derangement Syndrome, where hatred of Donald Trump leads to increasingly outlandish accusations and conspiracies.
Both parties condemn Green’s rhetoric
Green’s remarks about tanks in the streets have drawn criticism from both sides of the political aisle.
Many Democrats have privately expressed frustration with Green’s comments, seeing them as an unnecessary distraction at a time when the party is trying to develop a coherent message to counter Trump’s policy agenda.
Republicans have been more direct in their criticism, calling Green’s claims dangerously inflammatory and pointing to the Democrat’s history of making sensational accusations against Trump.
“This kind of rhetoric doesn’t just damage political discourse, it creates unnecessary fear and division,” a Republican congressional source told reporters. “Representative Green has been calling for impeachment since President Trump’s first term. This isn’t about protecting democracy – it’s about a personal vendetta.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson characterized Green’s statements as “exactly the kind of unhinged partisan attacks that Americans are tired of seeing from Washington.”
Green’s comments come at a time when President Trump is focusing on implementing his America First agenda, working to secure the border, reduce inflation, and strengthen the economy – priorities that polls show most Americans support.
The vast majority of Americans have moved on from the impeachment drama of Trump’s first term, yet Green appears determined to keep reliving those battles, regardless of how disconnected his claims become from reality.
Whether Green’s latest impeachment push gains any traction remains to be seen, but his increasingly extreme rhetoric raises questions about how far some Trump opponents are willing to go in their efforts to undermine the administration.
